Winch brass gear is black !

I love reading this stuff. Poked around on the web for "Sulfur and brass" (my first guess, from freshman and high school chemistry), found a really informative article on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear_oil Thing is, according to a LOT of the other sources, the sulfur-brass...

    HMMWV Grounding Kit Install

My local ACE hardware store has those trays full of nuts/bolts and doodads like you see at Tractor Supply and other, similar, stores. Poking around one day I discovered they had ALUMINUM screws/nuts/bolts in a couple trays. I've since used some of them to make better grounds with the body...

    HMMWV Grounding Kit Install

It's those metric ones that really throw me. Any rhyme or reason to this? And thanks for that, could've used it about a year ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Thanks. Shoulda done my homework on this one. I saw a photo, thought maybe some engineer had figured a way to improve airflow, make it quieter (ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...), but backwards? Yep. https://real4wd.com/store/Fan,-Reverse-Rotation

Can the old style fan be replaced with the newer one? Better volume/flow with newer?

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Stebel. Poke around on epay and/or Amazon. This came from a company in Australia, took about five days to get here. The 24 volt units used to be sold on both, shipped from US sources for around $40. I spent about half an hour searching the web and could find them but for around $80. I...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

This might work. A lot louder in person (I think the iphone mutes high volumes automatically), scared the bejabbers out of the dogs in the house, though.

Gov Planet small HMMWV parts and shipping

Back in the 90's, USAA had this deal on a private FEDEX account and I took them up on it. It's really easy to print out and mail a shipping label to someone or even use one of the labels off the account-linked bar-coded roll they sent way back when. in rare instances someone is gouging buyers...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I've almost been hit - twice - in my Humvee. Lights on, a-holes ran stop signs, never even looked. Thank God my brakes work. Military horn goes "meep" so I replaced it. Now it sounds like a BMW or other Euro-car and about 139 dB loud.should get people's attention. Sent from my iPhone using...

    Humvee road trip reliability

One of these days I'll do a formal poll, but in all the decades I've been wrenching on motorcycles, cars, and now this HMMWV, it seems they're ALL quieter and smoother-running right after oil changes, more so when ALL the fluids are changed.

    Humvee road trip reliability

The longer I own mine, the farther out I stretch my road trips, the more "amenities" I add to it - better seats, aviation intercomm w/ AVN headsets and cellphone hookup for music/calls - do the safety checks, reliability checks, I'm thinking sometime down the road when it's time to move to my...

    HMMWV 1986 T case leak

Well, normal MAINTENANCE. If you can't find a source for the "seep" (is it a class III drip or just wet along seams?), wash the truck, hose off the TC w/ some degreaser, brake cleaner, let dry and take it for a ride (DO check for the rubber plug - part #65 -in hole first), then get under there...

M998 60 Amp to 200 Amp Alt upgrade?

I bought one of those sets (PDU/battery tester) and already have two of the pulsetech 24V solargizers. If you have one added, is the wiring from the solar panel DIRECT, or does it go through some type of charge regulator like the one that comes with the pulsetech unit? I'm kind of assuming...

Low Sulfur Fuel - Adding Lubrication

And soylent green is people. I recently bought a 5gal bucket of Miles' Dexron III for transmission/PS and it says clearly, in English, on the label "non toxic, non hazardous". When I was a pharmacy tech in an earlier life, we learned the difference between the two mineral oils, USP and NF...

Low Sulfur Fuel - Adding Lubrication

Had a friend who ran his car exclusively on processed peanut butter oil. Car ran great but the fumes stuck to the roof of his garage. [ahem...]

    Sparks on floorboard

Man, the suspense is killing me... did you find the source?

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Because I like "gadgets", I looked for the Dorman part you mentioned. I found a PATENT for such a device with drawings I thought was interesting. Did the usual websearches, amazon's jungle search engine, epay, even the dorman site itself. Nada. Nada darned thing. [edit: THIS, on the evil...

Thinking about making some half doors.

Awesome. Now if you can get setup to crank out, say, a dozen sets, and price them reasonably (look at ePay, some folks are gouging, IMHO, but I honestly don't know how much time/labor/materials cost go into a set of these. Knew a guy once with a water jet metal cutter, something like that could...

Need part number help. Can't find it in the TMs

What Juan said. You can ALSO use a 1/4-20 KNOB you'll find at a big box hardware store; I used 3/8 hitch pins to connect the legs to the base too, makes for easier removal of the tray. For security, I use a bike lock with a 1/4" loop but it rattles a bit.

    Smart start control box

"PROTECTIVE Control Box". Isn't that where the acronym is from? Probably one of those things you MIGHT do just to limp home or at least get the truck up on a trailer.
