Source for under hood jack storage

Dropped fuel tank today, not a lot of stuff in the bottom, some paint chips (?), a little water (probably from me cleaning the outside), some grit/dirt, cleaned up nice. Old time sender with ping-pong ball on arm inside (have new on hand), sock is so clogged I can't see light through it (new on...

Source for under hood jack storage

You know the tabs riveted to the commander's seat/battery box? Same thing. That jack mounting plate that bolts up to the lift tower and right side spash shield SHOULD have two of those tabs on top to pair up with the "hooks". I'd take a picture of mine, but truck's in the garage and it's a...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

removed, installed rear transfer case seal. I bought a box of tools months ago and had the installation tool called for in the instructions. It didn't work. Unless I"m reading the manual wrong on this and it's for a 218 not a 242 TC (doubtful, the box o'tools were for later model HMMWVs...

1993 3L80 Transmission Filter Change (bolt loose to filter) Correct or not?

FYI: Check parts book 24P-1 (or 2), search for short part number or NSN. NSN-Now.com search here; http://nsn-now.com/Indexing/PublicSearch.aspx Looks like they're available, just not "the usual places." GM part shown too. Glad you got it worked out.

Wait light not visible in bright light

Could be, and I'd have to check out TM -10 manual for this, if it's warm enough outside, or short enough time after stopping, wait light might not come on at all. Last time I ran my truck it was in the70s, I turned it off, puttered around for about a half hour, turned the key, no wait light...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Hopefully I'm not breaking "da rules" here, but "can had cheap" like this one on fleabay: 152540186933 Now compare this with the price for a similar 24 volt winch with roughly the same capacity plus wiring; sure you might need to replace some of the hoses with the hydraulic model (I bought a...

    H1's are back, kinda sorta

Hmmm... must be part of what's driving the used tire prices UP lately.

power steering pump part#? 87' HMMWV with 6.2 non turbo

How's this holding up for you? Most of the websites I've seen (Kascar, HPG for example) post this warning with their pumps: IMPORTANT NOTE: GENUINE AM GENERAL. AFTERMARKET POWER STEERING PUMPS WILL NOT APPLY ENOUGH PRESSURE FOR THE HUMMER DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF THE HYDROBOOST SETUP AND...

    H1's are back, kinda sorta

Seems like the law makes an exemption for REPRODUCTIONS if they're over 25 years old. Maybe the current state of liability lawsuits - and added cost to the mfr. - makes selling in the US cost-prohibitive.

New member from PA - Philadelphia area

Be sure and take a trip to Easternsurplus. Ask for the nickel tour. You'll cry. I just went up a month ago to pick up a new/used Transfer case and the stuff they have there is amazing. Say hello to Bill. Oh, and welcome to the madness.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Saturday, May 6 I removed the parking brake and shifter "box". Rubber was a little dry on both. I got a "new" style parking brake lever - latching type - installed with some help from my son who hadn't used any air tools yet so it was a "bonding" experience. Getting everything OUT? No...

    TM Covering Transmission/T-Case Installation?

About to plug and play myself here (swapping 218 to 242), just doing some things like new brake (locking) lever, shifter clean/lube/boot, gas tank seals/etc, was wondering about sealant myself )between TC and transmission output flange. Somewhere I read "any black oil resistant silicone" (or...

    Voltmeter gauge not working

Either the meter's bad, or - and this is a longshot but a possibility if there's a circuit breaker upstream - your meter may be shorting out. I've read somewhere on this board about the metal frame retainers causing some problems. Don't know exactly how but pull the meter, or just the frame...

    Voltmeter gauge not working

real easy to do with a light bulb and some wire.

    Voltmeter gauge not working

Or connect a 9v battery to it directly. That'll tell you RFN if it's the meter or the wiring harness or something else up stream. VOM might not give easily interpreted results. Got data on normal resistance?

the real cost of owning a HMMWV

To address the OP's first question: "I am thinking about getting a HMMWV, from auction, and would appreciate any information owners might share (like in the deuce sticky), or links to pertinent threads. and, if nothing else, would you do it again? how did it work out long term? getting parts...

the real cost of owning a HMMWV

I'm of the "don't ask, don't tell" school of hobby costs here. I know how much I have in it and what I hope to do with it in the future and what it's doing for me now. I like tinkering, fixing things, working with my hands, it's why I chose the career field I'm in. Hobbies rarely become ways...
