Try prying the back plate away from the pulley. I think it used compression to hold the pulley on. I got mine off a couple of years ago, but don't remember how I did it. Was going to do the same engine replacement as you are doing.

If you want to get fancy you can add a stainless steel screw to each anchor and tie a fishing line to it. Then attach the other end of the fishing line to the bracket -so you don't lose the plugs.

How about just poor design... The engine in my truck does not even have a 1000 miles on it and the **** button popped off just from the truck sitting a few months without being run.
I just looked at the 2 winches I have for sale and have the spoolers attached. They go up to the spooler from the back and down to the front. So on my 2 it is top feed going forward.
The hard shift issue is easy to fix. I replaced all the vacuum hoses and the vacuum modulator valve on the transmission since it was cheap and easy to do. Cost about $20 for all of the parts. Now it shifts smooth as silk!
