DUKW is really bad as a daily driver. Why, glad you asked! Sitting at the driver's position, you cannot see a compact car that is closer than 25 feet in front of the bow, and even then you may not be able to see the brake or turn signal lights. Even if you are the first vehicle at a light...
And if your MS sections are dirty or rusted, use Naval Jelly to clean them up (inside and out) and a wire brush on the outside and a correctly sized bore brush for the inside, then follow with plenty of hot water to flush out the Naval Jelly. Allow to dry and use copper Never-Sieze applied...
Got some pics, finally. If you built this to pivot at the back of the frame and had a foot to attach at the bottom, it would at least start three feet off the ground and go up from there. Guy would be simply a ring on the next to top section to have three cables attached, on ther same...
Gaaa! A Civvy Ball Hitch! I take it this is Forest Service. If you can find someone that can haul it to Lexington, SC, where I live (probably less than 8 miles), it can sit in the driveway for a few weeks. If it still had the lunette, I could do it with a deuce.
I'll talk to Moxie and see what he has in mind for the tower that came with the S-280 he just got. I think it is pneumatic operated, but do not know if it is functional. Of course, it's on the east coast and you are out west, so shipping could be a deal breaker. I'll try to get pics at the...
Griddles were made to be flipped over so both sides can be used. I notice if I don't flip mine on a regular basis they will start to warp up in the middle. End to end warping is probably caused by only running one burner, not both at about the same heat range.
A case from long ago (1960's) that went to the Supreme Court decided that the government could get property back, but had to pay market prices to do so. It involved a Sumter, SC electrical company that purchased large lots of scrap from Aberdeen, MD, mainly because the owner wanted to, and he...
Looks to be a standard 98 Mauser bayonet. Probably WWII, as WWI and earlier bayonets were much longer. Of course German WWI rifles had 29 inch barrels, the carbines had 24 inch barrels. US bayonets also went from 17" down to 11" between the world wars. I've owned both a '71 and a 71/84, that...
YES, YOU GOT IT! The signal will follow the outside antenna inside through the coax and then radiate out of the inside antenna. Ideally, you would put a powered booster along the line inside the shelter to increase the signal (before the interior antenna), so you would get four bars. The...
BP,
Contact 'steelypip' as he lives in Charlottesville (a few miles north of you on US29) and he may be able to talk you through it. Most people just purchase a set of troop seats, or rebuild them using either red oak wood or fiberglass slats. HTH.
The cut down Rotella boxes are perfect for six #10 cans to fit in. Newer Rotella boxes are a different size and not as useful. Thus, we don't throw those away, but reuse them year after year. Thanks for asking the question.
