    Hot rod deuce

Ironically, the tractor folks are switching to the high compression ratio pistons to improve cold weather starting.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Based on what I have read, the multifuel block is weak and the number six tends to break loose. There are a few threads on the tractor pulling sites which talk about. IIRC, the tractor puller was breaking ~5 blocks per season and went to a billet block. I have also read about someone who...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

You are exactly right. Number six breaks loose. I have read about one person who tractor pulls with a 478 billet block because he broke so many stock ones. It may be "bulletproof" at designed levels but it will never be a 5.9 cummins. My suggestion is to forget about re-inventing the wheel...

Read up on the tractor puller sites; you won't fine much of substance here for what you plan to do.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Continental published a paper in 1964 outlining the development of the LD and LDS-465 engines: "Development of Multifuel Features of the LD-465 and LDS-465 Military Engines." It describes many of the features of the engines as well as how the combustion chamber operates. It also stated that...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

There is a decent paper available online by D Lee entitled "Combustion Similations of Direct Injection Diesel Engine Having 'M' Thype Combustion Chamber" which outlines how the multifuel works.

M35 block heaters- who was selling them?

No, but I got two from NAPA that were the wrong wattage.

The LDS piston squirter drops upper ring temperature by 100F; doesn't seem too significant.

    Multi-fuel life span?

A very similar engine was used in White/ Oliver tractors. The white tractor forums suggest about 4k hours before a loose sleeve or leaking injector. My understanding is that this kind of lifespan was pretty normal for tractors in the 1980s. You can buy sleeves which are larger in OD.

    M35 REO Gaskets!!! PLease Help

I haven't bought reo gaskets from NAPA for a few years. Used gaskets show up on ebay once in awhile but the cork gaskets are usually garbage. Not a big deal; just make your own from silicone sheet. I have had good luck getting oddball gaskets from Olson's Gaskets. Olson's Gaskets I...

Can 12 and 24 V share same ground?

No, look at the installation manual for a battery equalizer. They apply 1/2 of the 28V (ie. 14V) to the lower battery. Here is a link for ya: http://www.allbatterysalesandservice.com/graphics/52109-52204-52206-52208-52210.pdf

Why? This is EXACTLY how battery equalizers work.

    M35 REO Gaskets!!! PLease Help

It is best to go to NAPA with the part numbers in-hand. I'll post tomorrow with the numbers.

    M35 REO Gaskets!!! PLease Help

I don't have the part numbers at hand but lots of the gaskets can be had from NAPA. I had the best luck making my own oil pan and valve cover gaskets from silicone sheet. Cheapest price were from "rubberman" on ebay.
