Many years back, I worked with some very high horse power motor builds, and I recall we actually used it when assembling the motors and when breaking them in.
I don't recall a single oil related failure.
Never thought of doing that.
Looks good, and should protect it well.
Might even make it more easily stored(rolled up).
I bet hydraulic hose protective sleeving would work just as well. (I have that around).
