That meter as delightful as it is won't read what you need.
An alternate to a VOM meter with frequency is to buy a kill-a-watt plug-in meter. They are pretty cheap on amazon or your favorite electronic retailer. You can plug it into the convenience outlet with a short AC cord. It will give you...
Did you check the frequency with a separate meter? Did the engine sound like it was running faster than normal?
The frequency transducers on those units do eventually fail. You need to verify if its lying to you.
Ran the 803 for a few hours. Made the wife happy to have power. The heat pump cycled a couple times. Everything in the house operated as normal. Fuel gauge barely budged.
Back on utility now. The wind is less but still coming through at 15-20 with higher gusts. Going to keep everything...
Thanks for the feedback. So if you lost power and the breaker at the generator was still on its pretty safe to conclude that the generator stopped making power.
The first thing to do is to take a VOM and check for power at the convenience outlet with the generator running. This bypasses a lot...
Before we go any further - Do you have a VOM (Volt-ohm meter) and do you feel comfortable using it?
Since you have an electrical output problem you will need to be familiar with using a VOM and be able to work safely around electrical systems.
If you don't feel comfortable with this please...
Big +1 on this. Disconnect the battery and run it again. The 24v power system has a very limited output. A weak battery can cause lots of problems.
The fact that the battery is dragging down the charging circuit is a good sign that it may be recoverable.
These engines don't have the issues with caviation that the PowerStroke engines do so the diesel specific coolants are not required.
That said, I prefer a good quality sillicate free antifreeze to save wear and tear on the waterpump.
You both are right. If the thermostat is stuck partially open it will run cold at light loads and overheat under heavy loads.
Personally I would inspect the thermostat and rule it out as the problem before running the set more. But thats me. ;)
I think I'm done buying them for now. I'm going to turn my attention to service. I'm sure there are a number of machines floating around my area that need some TLC.
+1 on the artic heater. I would have loved to pick up a unit with one installed. I've been looking for a reasonably priced heater...
I would bet they already have something formed up that is close enough to work. Has anyone taken a hose to the local auto parts store to see how it matches up with anything they have hanging on the rack?
