Nice truck! The 302 GMC's valves ride directly on the cast iron head; no hardened seats. My 302 in a 1/2 ton pickup had leaking valves after ~25k miles. My understanding is that these engines were expected to have the head off several times in the life of the engine.
This carb was used on a LOT of other vehicles. If you do a search on google, you will find several vehicle cross references which you can take to your local auto parts store. Or, you can purchase from one of the several online carburetor specialty shops. Several years ago, I got a quote of...
Interesting analysis of Brown's gas and other pseudoscience. Read them carefully until you understand what he is saying.

The stock coil is not 24V; it is actually a 6V. In fact, when automakers moved to 12V systems, most retained the 6V coil but added a ballast resistor to keep the point current within limits. The primary resistance is all that you need to be concerned with.
A standard ignition coil will fit in the military ignition. The stock is 1.5 ohms primary; use a replacement that has at least that.
I haven't had good luck with NOS gaskets; they are all dried out and leak. The new one from NAPA was too long. I suggest contacting Olson's Gaskets and get a...
OK, to simplify things I'll spare the details and just recommend what I think is the easiest way to get the pertonix in your stock disty. When I installed the pertronix in my brother's R6602, he special ordered the pertronix with the 24V option. I'll find out the details, get some pictures...
No, the 1167 will not work right out of the box. The pertronix takes the place of the points; using a pass transistor to make the circuit to ground. The pass transistor can tolerate the voltage but the control circuitry cannot. For this reason, you either need to drop the 28V supplied to the...
It was the 1167 pertronix. The same as used in early GM inline six distributors. You will have to slightly modify the plate that the points mounted on. I believe that I had to remove the eccentric used to adjust point gap and drill and tap a hole to retain the pertronix.
I have modified both the Reo OA331 and Continental R6602 with the Pertronix. I'll have to double check but I am pretty sure that it was the 1167. I did one with a special ordered 24V module ($125) and another using the standard Pertronix with a 12V regulator epoxied into the large condensor...
One of the best improvements that I ever made was converting to a civilian style distributor. I have used Pertonix in both the civilian and military style distributors with good results. Because the distributor is fairly simple on the Reo, it is easy to convert other distributors to fit. The...
RE: Re: RE: Another Sprag Newbie Question
You do not need to shift through first to get the shift from the reverse sprag to the front sprag. As soon as you pass through neutral, the change has been made. If going into first did something special, it would be undone as soon as you went back...
Egge Machine Company does rebabbiting of rod and main bearings. www.egge.com
If you go to www.webrodder.com and go to the engines section you can see an article on how this is done.
Wasn't Climax bought out by Waukesha around that time?
The older engines were designed for a lower volatility fuel which benefited from significant exhaust heat. I did a couple of things to mitigate this on my 331. I got a better carb (holley economaster) which can handle a hot soak better, I used a paper filter which doesn't trap as much fuel...
If your point is that the ball bearings and gaskets are just "sizzle", you are missing the more important fact, the "sizzle" can be had with the steak for the same $$$.
Well, I am an engineer and reasonable inferences can be made by inspection; IF you know what you are looking at. As an example, I (or anyone else knowledgeable in the industry) can de-lid a competitor's unit, read the part number off of the IC and know what characteristics the unit posses...
