Do either of your trucks have electric lift pumps? I would have thought that they would have all mechanical pumps.
I finally got some pics of our truck working here in PNG. These are from the first time we had it out and got it stuck on a pile of big rocks in the middle of a river...
Oh, and another thing--what can I realistically expect from the hand brake? Is it supposed to be able to keep the truck from rolling when parked on a hill? Ours doesn't, even though we've adjusted it according to the manual. Now it takes a lot more effort to put the brake on, but it still...
Hey, ours in an ex-USMC truck--I understand that USMC 809 series trucks have Detroit lockers in the rear diffs. I followed another thread that talked about how to tell if you have lockers or not involving jacking up one wheel and spinning the tire with the trans in neutral, etc., no hard...
Oustide, but it's no longer an issue. I had to do some slight modifications, but now I have an operating door handle that will not fall off again. Turns out the handle I had was the wrong one--the square shaft on it was too long and I couldn't make heads or tails of how it was supposed to be...
I'm still trying to figure out how this door handle goes back on--for some reason I have the idea that I need TC 3-510 too see how it is all supposed to work, but it's not in the very excellent collection of manuals in the resource area. Noen of the 5000 or so pages of 809 series manuals that I...
Thanks everybody! I now have 5000 pages of maintenance manuals and parts lists.
I guessed that my winch drive shaft might be for an older generation 5 ton, (flat grill style). Good to have confirmation of that.
I dropped the tire pressures to 35 psi each, but I think I'm going...
I'm sure much of this has been covered before, but I hope asking some of these questions again won't try too many people's patience.
About a year ago I bought a reconditioned M813 from a dealer in Georgia. I had it shipped to Papua New Guinea where I am living and working and because of...
Hey, just wanted to say that Frank was very helpful and had all the parts I needed for this job--I ended up getting the bearings at NAPA, but all the other parts came from Frank in original 1950's US Army packaging. I highly recommend him! Now this old trailer can soldier on for another 60...
Thanks NDT--the bearings have a Timken number on them, (I don't have them in front of me right now, so I can't give the number out here), but do you think that they might still be available from a Timken supplier?
yeah, I was right--I can't see my previous posting, (the one under "what am I doing wrong?") I can start a new thread, but I can't see anything I have previously posted and most of the time I can't see anything anybody else has posted either. It doesn't seem to make any difference which...
I seem to be doing something wrong here--every time I click on a header to follow a forum thread I end up not being able to see anything--my computer goes through it's normal routines when I click on a header, but then the thread window never opens and I end up just staring at a mostly blank OD...
I'm currently in Papua New Guinea and am working on a heavy duty trailer that was made many years ago out of a CCKW with Timken axles. Can anybody tell me where I can get the following parts:
1. all new wheel bearings
2. new center nuts, (I mean the ones that hold the whole wheel...
RE: Re: RE: got the 5 ton into the container!!
Thanks, CCATLETT1984. I was hoping somebody would say something like that! And now the looooong wait for it to get here....
RE: got the 5 ton into the container!!
No, we actually managed to get it in there without removing any axles--I asked for super single tires and also 6 skinny wheels/tires so that we could roll it into the container--with the super singles on, it really won't fit, but with one skinny wheel on...
got the 5 ton into the container!!
Hey, just so that everybody knows, it is indeed possible to get an M813A1 into a 40 foot shipping container, BUT it's a lot of work. We decided that it ws worth it because we can ship a 40 foot container from the East Coast of the US to here in PNG for under...
