When I has Beachwood canvas make up my top I had the choice of going with the original metal insets that hold the canvas in place or installing the snaps on the side. I had seen a picture of a truck done this way previously and liked the look so since I am the Battalion Commander I ordered it...
The USMC did undercoat their trucks since they were around salt water a lot. I did get a pair of USMC front fenders for mine when making it into a USMC version. The fenders I got still wore only USMC paint and were undercoated, and guess what the bonus was, no rust holes around the head light...
Okay guys I am looking for some help on this one. I am looking to re-create a log book for my truck so I am looking for the various DoD forms found in the 60's to 70's era as well as the military drivers license card. I found some items on G741 but they did not reproduce well or to the right size.
After market coils are notorious for failure if you are using the OEM distributor. If you can find a good used coil you are better off. Also a good idea to carry a spare. I keep a 50 cal ammo box on board with spare parts as well as a basic tool bag.
There are certain differences between the USMC version and ones used by the Army. Most modifications were done in Barstow or with locally installed kits. Feel free to contact me.
Here is a couple of photos from my USMC frame off restoration. I used a gray primer and Gray color coat engine paint. Black accessories and steel high temp paint for the exhaust manifold. Its your truck go with what makes you happy.

So if I understand things correctly you have tried 2 carbs one being rebuilt and one from VPW both with the same results. You have the correct base gasket. So to me that rules out the carb as the problem. One thing you said is that the flooding is instantaneous and based on your description...
If you have it out I would do a tear down and inspect on it. Replace all seals and gaskets. Bearings as needed. Now specific to your problem. Popping out of gear can be a worn syncro ring issue and if they are worn I would replace them. Most often the problem is found in the shift...
This is rare but something I have seen back in the "good old days". Check the float and make sure the soldered joints are not letting gas get inside which causes the float not to rise and close the needle on the seat. Also again float level setting is critical and will change by switching to a...
If you do buy it and once you start working on it (even if you have manuals) take lots of pictures as you take things apart it can be a big help in the long run when you start putting things back together.
Also check the fittings where the lines are attached to the carb air inlet to make sure someone has not just installed plain 90 degree elbows. One elbow should have a 90 degree piece of tubing soldered into it. It also need to be faced into the air stream in the proper direction. Did you...
