More progress. Got the new Dorman throttle cable installed ($50)... Buttoned up the air box and engine ground... Can refuel tomorrow.

Flush the old fuel out of it asap. Clean out the tank and then add a gallon of diesel and a heavy dose of fuel additive.
After changing fuel filters.. prime the system and then let it sit for a few days. Re prime it a few times a day but let it sit.
There is a tiny piece in the injection pump...
Got some work done tonight. Fuel system is buttoned back up. Parts came in to make my load bank so will likely do that sometime this week..
Also received a neat goody that will make it look better after it's repainted.
Need to tear into it and see why it failed. You can still find new stators from time to time. Keep an eye on eBay and such.

Engine hoist and a small trailer or a tree, rope, pulley...
No matter how you do it.. just be safe. 1200lbs can take a limb or life very easily.
I'll be relocating my 003a soon out of my shop. I'll pick up the genny with my engine hoist... back the trailer under it and sit it down...
Progress is slow.... But good. Fuel tank is clean and drying. Flushed it out with vinegar and a pound of 3/8 nuts. Then Evaporust... Then flushed with water. After it dries, it'll get lined.
Also made up the new fuel filter setup.
Lots of cleaning and painting. Paint is still wet in...
Ordered a bunch of goodies to get the unit serviced out. Already had oil filters and such for it... but decided to upgrade the fuel filtration. Already had the filter heads sitting in the shop.. just waiting for filters to show up tomorrow. Will be using a Baldwin BF-957D pre-filter/water...
From my understanding, there are none. Oil filter yes.. not fuel filter though. Easiest way is to get a universal wix fuel filter base ( about $30 each).. or a pair of them... And make a custom mount. You can reuse the fuel lines and fittings but will need reducing bushings.
I'll be...
I've already replaced the plugs. Runs good and no signs of compression leaks around the plugs. 2 of the 4 had broken tips but from the looks of them, they'd been gone for quite some time. They all came out fairly easy.
The tips are either blown to bits and gone or rattling around in the...
Got home and wanted to see how it starts after being ran last night. Fired up easily with no haze.
I think I found my glow plugs issue. The plugs are seeing 24+v with the switch on but only when the meter is grounded to the battery. Grounded to the engine, they are seeing under 5v. I'll...
Yes indeed. Going to attempt to adjust it. The cover was damaged on it. Looked like it had been hit by something. If I cant get it adjusted, is there anyone making replacements or will it be something to bypass?
Wow... been a long time.
The generator has been sitting in my shop untouched until now.
I finally got around to installing the new glow plugs and intake heaters... re-wiring the glow plugs (which still aren't getting juice.. more work to be done there).. and re-installing the repaired...
It did fire and run good. Have some parts to track down but the pump seems to be doing great. It was hazing BAD at first but that's to be expected. After the first start, I let it sit for 15-20 minutes and fired it back up for 5 minutes or so and the hazing was already substantially better...
Well... It's been a while. Lol.
The generator has been sitting in my shop since rebuilding the pump but life kept getting in the way of doing anything to it.
Tonight that changed. After over a decade...

It has been brought to my attention that one of my details is wrong. Apparently, the image in the Ambac manual is upside down in comparison to every other image in the book with the pump disassembled. The DOT on the "METERING SLEEVE" needs to face the ENGINE side of the pump and not the pump...
Been a bit since I've been on as the genny took a back seat to a bunch of other things (such as our second kiddo being born).
As far as the pump goes... yes it should spin easily by hand. If it doesn't, it's likely gummed up with old fuel. Don't force it... pull it apart and clean it...
