I had something similar happen. Speedo showed zero. The end had backed out part way. I cleaned and lubed everything and put it back in. I now check that frequently. Even in between grease jobs.

Was it inside or out? Water can run down the gear shift and past the boots then right into the transmission.

That’s great that he also wants to get into the hobby. A M38 or M151 would suit him.

I have the same problem in one of my headsets. I believe I have narrowed down to the PTT switch.

I’ll check that out.

Switch to screw posts batteries. I use type 31’s. Just use a combo wrench once in a while to make sure the nuts are tight.
