Trying to get two m220's running after a long rest

I hate to admit how old I am, but my first encounter with that chemical was more than 50 years ago and it was a major componet of several upper cylinder cleaners. the prescribed use was to pour it in the fuel tank and drive the vehicle normally. However, my mechanic grandfather showed me how to...

Trying to get two m220's running after a long rest

That or getting transmissions into neutral or dropping driveshafts. The closer to the engine you can get with the disconnects, the less drag you get from other fluids gone solid or other rusted together things like brake shoes to drums. (That one took me for ever to figure out why I could not...

Trying to get two m220's running after a long rest

Under item #2 consider that the clutch disks may be rusted to the flywheel. Somtimes you think you have the drive line "disconnected" from the engine, but it is not and attempts to turn the engine over are really attempts to move the entire vehicle. Under item #3 I find upper cylinder cleaner...

    6x4 WW2 GMC?????

I would say the paint was poor, The head light cans were there as well as the guards. Can't remember the window glass condition, I think there was a hole in one windshield. The driver's door handle came off when we tried to open the door. Engine and drive line were complete. Yard owner will not...

    6x4 WW2 GMC?????

My son and I were searching a scrap yard yesterday and we ran across a WW2 closed cab GMC cab and chassis. The odd thing was that it is a 3 axle truck with only the rear two axles as drivers. (The same rear drive set up as on my M220, only a little lighter duty looking.) We crawled under and...

Trying to get two m220's running after a long rest

We were lucky with our M220 find. It was some 55 years with the U.S. Army at Yuma Proving Grounds and was reasonably intact with less than 10,000 actual miles.

Trying to get two m220's running after a long rest

That might be because from 1951 through 1953 GMC did not use a letter for a date code. If your truck was manufactured in 1953, but delivered to the Government in 1954 it would not have had a letter in the serial number. On the other hand, maybe GMC changed the way they did their Military...

Trying to get two m220's running after a long rest

There should be more to the serial number. On the passenger side frame horn (outside) forward of the front axle there should be some numbers about 3/4 of an inch tall . In the case of my M220, it took some sanding to find them under all the paint. The number should start "M220" followed by a...

    M43 Resurrection

Some perloined photos of Ghostdrivers M43 at last weekend's Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado Camp Out before a Convoy to the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo Parade. As you can see, she had help cooking the hamburgers.

    My GMC, a little update

Gunfreak, I checked eBay to see if the vendor where we picked up our air pack rebuild kit was still selling. He is not there and the only 5 ton (M54/800 series) kit was buy it now at $179. That is a far cry from the less than $55 we spent a little over a year ago. I took a look for our old...

    M43 Resurrection

Zout, Ghostdriver told me she was impressed by all the finger prints around the bullet holes after the parade. There was a lot of "checking it out" that took place. She took it by a Senior Citizen's home after the parade and one of the guys there was a Marine with Korean conflict time...

    M43 Resurrection

It was really something to have the last minute glitches she did. The last minute rush included installing a rotary vane 24 volt electric fuel pump and a carb take down assembly with float and seat re-adjustments. It turns out the mechanical double action fuel pump check ball decided to not...

    M43 Resurrection

After the pause report I think Ghostdriver is pretty pumped. On the way to the Parade, she managed to pull away from my M220 a bit on the highway. Engine is really strong. While not finished, she and the guys managed to get things far enough along to show well in the parade. The Commerce City...

    M43 Resurrection

More pictures of getting ready (pictures of Ghostdrivers M43, but we are working on the M220, M35a2, M818 and M817 as well) for the Memorial Day Parade. Our club works to make this event have what we call the long green float.
