I have a problem understanding exactly what is your problem. Assuming the wiring is OK it sounds like either your AC voltage regulator or the voltage adjustment potentiometer is bad. Not ALWAYS running the engine at rated RPM and / or excessive idling at startup or shutdown can cause the AC...
The 002A and 003A require 28VDC to operate certain items such as fuel pump(s) and to keep the STOP solenoid retracted - to name a few. If the battery charger is working, either generator should run without batteries but I would not recommend doing so. Is your 28VDC battery charger working?
There have been several posts about which one is "better" the 003A or the 803A. While each has its pluses and minuses, yesterday I load tested them side by side.
I have refurbished around 20 003A's, so I think I know them quite well. The 003A I kept for my personal use is about as new and...
My reset 802A with 14 hours does not shake. Maybe I got a good one. Granted is is not quite as smooth as the 803A but when putting my hand on the case I really don't feel much vibration. It is sitting on but not bolted down to a concrete pad.
Sounds like you may have several issues. You can bypass the over temp switch with a jumper wire. It is located on one of the cylinders behind the cooling air "flappers". Do not run it with the over temp switch bypassed long but you can test it that way to see if that is why it won't start when hot.
I have refurbished and sold around 25 MEP 002A and 003A generators. My refurbishment includes new oil, new oil filter, 2 new fuel filters, new air filter if needed, cleaning fuel pump strainers, cleaning the fuel tank, a complete check-out and adjustment or repair or replacement of glow plugs...
I may as well throw in my $0.02. I am not one of the experts on this site but I have restored and sold around 25 002A and 003A generators, with NO complaints. I kept two 002A's and two 003A's for my personal use. I think I know them fairly well.
A few months ago I acquired one 802A and one...
In picture #6 is that a cracked cylinder wall? If it is what I think it is it looks like the water in this generator had no anti-freeze and froze and ruined the block. If so this one is (at best) a parts unit.
Ditto on using storeman for rebuilding and calibrating injectors. He does a great job for me and is very reasonable. The fins on the injectors are aluminum and the injector is steel. The fins are "attached" to the injector by a very close fit that often gets corrosion between the two dissimilar...
Just another way to look at it......A while back I bought a 003A that had been canibalized. Among other things it was missing all 3 OE fuel filter canisters and all the connecting hoses. Since I only wanted a useable generator and not one that was mil-spec, I went to the local Ford tractor...
On 002A and 003A generators the % power meters, AC volt meters, and Hz meters will inter-change. Since the AC volt meters all read directly (no transducer or transformer) they should all be the same. Not so for the % power meter and Hz meters which all use either a separate transducer or CT...
Assuming your hydraulic pump is driven directly from the engine crankshaft and that your engine has adequate power to operate the hydraulic pump without bogging down, the cycle time is 100% dependent on the engine RPM.
Sorry for not being specific. I now see where your VR is for the AC. The VR I built is for the 28V battery charging circuit. I have seen quite a few OE regulators go south. I never tried to market mine for the reasons you mentioned. It is hard wired in a small sealed aluminum project box...
Hi "Triple Jim". I have been going to the Charlotte NC hamfest since the mid 1970's. Originally this was a weekend family affair with a couple of other ham families. All the kiddos are grown with children and scattered all over the country, so we old time hams are the only ones who still...
I have been a HAM radio operator (AD4U) for 50 years. We have get-togethers called hamfests where people buy and sell junk. At most every large hamfest there are people who have truck loads of new and used meters and gauges. Last year at the Charlotte NC hamfest I plundered through a pile of...
Should not be difficult. Screw a T into the engine block where the OE oil pressure switch is attached to the engine. Reinstall the OE oil pressure switch. Add a second pressure switch to the unused port on the T. This pressure switch should have one NC (normally closed) contact that opens at...
