I am curious as to what type of steel it is? I have a steel target (TacStrike Steel Target Systems) and it eats all lead no matter what caliber (7.62, 50 cal BMG etc)
I would also check the wheel cylinders. When I got my first 404 my brakes didn't work. I had to replace all 4 (they can be rebuilt) and I went ahead and replaced the rubber hoses just to be safe incase they had collapsed due to age. This way I only had to bleed the brakes once.

This would a great idea for those of us who want to run alternative fuels. Have one tank for diesel to start and stop on and the other tank for veg oil, ATF , motor oil or etc.
