I had a loud vibrating noise at idle that would go away when I raised the engine speed. Bugged me for awhile. Turned out to be the air cleaner! Yt was tight but I felt silly.The fiber washer is worn away at the intake and tightening the wing nuts down very tight stopped the noise.

My old V8 inboards are the same way only the resistance is in the volt gauge. If the gauge stops working you need to splice a peanut bulb and socket into the alternator wiring to "tickle" the regulator to start the charging system.

NOW I know why that heavy chain is there sticking out from under the driver's side of the seat. It came that way from the service and I've just left the chain on the floor as a conversation piece. Guess I'll start using it.

Not as far as I know. My relay was brand new when I got my truck and was left hanging by the harness under the dash in case it sticks it can be unplugged quickly. The rest of my 24v system still works great so I don't see an issue with keeping it. When something needs attention, I'll fix it.

I don't know why it would make a big difference either way. Drain plug washers and spark plug washers come in aluminum on cars using these. Don't know why injector washers would be any different. Just a soft metal to seal.

Just FYI...if your Gen 2 lamp is not working, neither is your alternator. That is how the system works as it needs the bulb resistance to start the charging. I thought my system was working fine for months until I put new bulbs in the dash and saw it start charging. If your back battery is...

Starts well at -10 off 7 working plugs and no block heater. Next winter I'm going to have a block heater ready to go just in case. For heat in cold temps I just slide a piece of cardboard between the grille and guard. Otherwise I suffer from frozen toes.

How does the latex hold up in the cold? Many years ago I painted a Mustang with latex and a roller and when nights got cool there was always wet pavement around the car from it sweating. One morning it was frosty and the paint came off in streamers on the way to work. lol

Hard to diagnose over the forum without looking under the truck. Sounds like something bent.

Few things come to mind and I won't mention the first one since I'm sure you and your mechanic have checked the fluid level. Has anyone checked the vent tube on top of the tranny to make sure it's not plugged? A front pump going out may also cause the problem but I'd check the vent.

That's exactly true.At $80+ per hour it really is no longer feasible to rebuild old parts as it would end up costing the customer three times as much as getting a new part. As a certified mechanic myself, I don't blame this on the technicians out there, it's just the way it is. On my own...

Well sticking with the original topic, I too opened the old relay to look inside and repair. Looked just like the photos in the original post. No need to clean the contacts as it is easier to loosen the large outer nuts and you can simply rotate the copper contacts upside-down for fresh contact...
