sorry but I never see a problem with friends talking back and forth on a certain subject. I thought applying a relay part number and low price along with the amount of time it lasted was very relevant to the conversation. my apologies just my opinion on forums. Delete away.
Just FYI... I emailed the company that made this $19 relay with some numbers off the case. The government put that cheap relay on eight years ago. Not bad in my opinion for a $45 savings. Food for thought.
here's what I took off. 19 dollars and it looks like it's been on there a long time. Hopefully this 60 dollars today it was well spent? http://www.murcal.com/Catalog/Metal-DC-Contactor-Family/974-1215-011-09
thanks again.when I call the auto parts stores just asking for a glow plug relay I get quoted 19 dollars. When I specifically asked for an ST85 it is 60 dollars. Is it worth the extra cash?
Thank you very much! New relay tomorrow as that's what it sounded like anyway out in the quiet snow listening to what it was doing. I'm confused also though as it should not have been seeing 24v at the relay before with the resister. Oh well, that's gotta be it. The Gen2 light issue must be...
I've never had any issues with my truck or the starting until the glow plug resistor bypass mod yesterday. the truck was starting fine but has 1 bad glow plug on the right bank so I did the modification so I can nurse the other glow plugs along. now the wait light stays on longer and it is on...
top_prop, thank you for the easy to follow step by step with good pictures. Very easy modification. Just did it and then degreased the engine bay. I know I need a glow plug or two on the right bank but it's nice to know that I'm not sending extra juice to the rest in the meantime. I'll pick up...
These trucks never had a bulb or socket in there. Mine is a generic socket with pigtail from a trailer plate lamp assembly that was made for the same type opening. You should be able to find them about anywhere.
Did the exact same repair with super glue. The old grease had turned solid binding the mechanism up. Used a good silicone grease after repair. I put a peanut bulb and pigtail in the indicator afterward for illumination.
You can get to many of the instrument bulbs from the back without pulling the cluster. Takes a little determination from under the dash. 1/4 turn counter-clockwise and the socket and bulb are out.
You first need to Disassemble them to determine what is wrong before you just buy parts. Both of mine were broken but were easily repairable without any cash output. The culprit in both assemblies was old hardened grease. I did need to super glue the transfer case indicator slide and scrape and...
My speedo works well and is accurate after a transfer case gear change with housing modification. The odd issue I have is that when I drive the truck cold and I reach 60-65 mph the needle jumps up another 5 mph suddenly and wavers a little. When warmed up everything is accurate to .5 mph.
