Try this next time when you run out of power in fourth. Downshift the transfer case to low and go to fifth with the transmission. If you still lose speed drop to fourth. That big gap between 3rd and 4th is a killer on the hills. Fill the hole using low range.
Besides, split shifting is fun!
I installed a NOS head for member Alanb. We unwrapped the the head and the button and retainer were laying in the paper! There does not seem to be a pattern to them falling off.
How do these engines cool themselves? Do they have a radiator? What about a coolant pump? Let me guess, they use water from the pump. Close up pics of the engine?
What is your resting voltage? Let the batteries set for a day and monitor the voltage every day. I think you have a weak or dragging stater. Check amp draw when cranking.
Remember that a fully charged battery that has rested unused will read 12.5 volts. If you check battery voltage after shutdown it will be higher. Alternators typically put out 13.8 volts. Check for amp draw at the battery terminals with an amp meter. The only way to find it.
Well let's see.
Yup, just added this!
(Second edit) I also use tapa talk.
(Third edit, now I'm just showing off) Ray, no one can edit in the conversation forum.
Never left the thread.
My stays in the yellow until the glow plugs turn off. On a cold engine they put quite a load on the drivers side alt after start up if the resistors are bypassed. Run the truck and get the engine up to operating temp before checking your charging system. Or disconnect the GP solenoid once it is...
