Had time this morning to mount the 1600 tires and wheels. What an improvement in looks and ability in mud and rough terrain. Just need to get a hard top on it.
Steve
The body lift is rather easy to do. I used steel plate/washers and longer bolts to lift the cab and hood at the mounting points an inch. Take a look at my first photos in the post. That cross member with the rubber bumpers in front of the radiator is bolted to the frame. You need to raise it...
There is enough room but the biggest fit issue was the extra height with the jake brakes fitting under the cab cowl on number 6. I ended up giving the cab and hood a 1 inch body lift to clear the valve covers.
I was quoted 4k to do the swap just in labor. Depending on the price of the motor...
I had to torch cut out the top 4 inches of the cross member. Then I welded in a thick piece of steel in this cut out so the commercial truck style mount could sit on the member.
This was the hardest part of the swap because the orientation of the tail shaft of the transmission must be in the...
Hey Matt. That is a FASS fuel filter that does remove air and filters down to 4 micron. The best thing about it is it provides the pt pump with 12 psi all the time so start up is very fast. I have run a lot of miles with lift pumps on other trucks and the benefits are very noticeable. The...
Had the chance to drive it this morning. Being that the original 250 was blown this project was unknown. But after letting it shift through the gears, all seems good. Just the right amount of power. I had Pittsburg Power rebuild and increase the cummins pt pump by 25%. That made a big difference...
I disconnected the line the goes into the intake tube, it doesn't have a trumpet affect but still annoying. It seems like there is a noise generating reed in the line that make this sound.
When I cycle the parking brake on my m929 I get that drying goose honk as air is released into the intake. Is there a way to stop this from happening? It is very annoying.
Thanks
Can someone tell me what is the output/purpose of each of the two electrical studs and one wire connector on the alternator.
I'm in the process of finishing my big cam 450 swap and will be using a commercial truck alternator and need to id the military alternator connection to complete the...
I did some research and the tractors with big cam motor, m916 or m920, have the same type of mount used in most OTR trucks such as a KenWorth 900 series which I'm using. Regardless it's all going together well, but not a simple removal and reinstall project. Will the trannie like the extra...
I'm in the process of putting a big cam 400 in my 929 currently. My motor is a recent rebuild and I had it running on the ground over the weekend. Like other people stated the motors are nearly identical with a few major differences. Having a jake makes the valve covers 2.5" taller which might...
Could someone please measure the clearance from the rear valve cover top to the cab. I'm getting ready to install the big cam with a jake which is taller and I would like to know if I need to cut a relief into the cab cowl.
thanks
I did get a Big Cam motor from Matt over in Massachusetts. Matt said it was a recent rebuilt 350HP motor and when I removed the rocker covers it was very clean inside. I did check the serial number on the motor and it turns out it is actually a 400HP motor from 1980. I needed to locate a...
Sorry, 929 your correct.
Well, the motor and trannie are out. Surprising how simple it was, just a few things in question were solved. First was the rear trannie mount. One short half inch bolt attaches to a rubber puck which is what attaches the trannie to the cross member. I ended up using...
It looks like the rear mount might not be directly bolted togather but has a rubber puck that sit on a steel plate. I'm going to put a jack on it tomorrow and see how it moves. It's just so tight above the trannie it's hard to tell.
How about the PTO on the 3 o'clock position on the trannie...
I'm almost ready to remove the stuck motor from my dump truck and replace it with a big cam. It looks like the best way is to remove the motor and trannie in one piece. I have everything disconnected except for the upper rear trannie mount and the pto. Is there an easy way to get at that...
