This would work IF the relay contacts in the third identical relay will carry the extra current (twice the current) the 12V glow plugs will require. Assuming the 12V glow plugs are the same WATTAGE as the 24V glow plugs (WATTS=VOLTSXAMPS) the third relay contacts will have to carry TWICE the...
Sometimes after I speak or post, a better idea comes to mind. If 24V glow plugs become extinct and / or cost prohibitive and if we have to use 12V glow plugs in our 002A and 003A generators, this may be the simplest and best way to go.
1. Install a relay with a 24VDC coil and heavy duty...
I posted this same idea else where. I think the simplest solution, if 24V glow plugs become extinct and we have to start using 12V glow plugs, is this. First - install a heavy gauge wire (gauge will depend on current draw) to the + terminal of the "bottom" battery. This is the battery whose -...
The 24V OE glow plugs used in 002A and 003A generators and the PROPER replacements made by Champion show 5 ohms resistance from the tab to ground. In order to get the same wattage, 12V glow plugs will show 2.5 ohms from the tab to ground. If you buy replacement glow plugs off ebay or...
If the day ever comes when OE type 24V glow plugs that fit the 002A and 003A generators cannot be found at any price, 12V glow plugs can be used if they can be found and as long as the threads and overall dimensions are identical. I do not know if suitable 12V glow plugs even exist. If they do...
Call Delk's in case you need the entire fuel gauge and float assembly. One of my MEP's was missing the entire assembly. I drove up to Asheboro a couple of weeks ago and Delk's has brand new assemblies. They appear to be better than the originals because the float is made of fuel resistant...
UPDATE - Got home and before getting out the TM I opened up the side cover on the voltage / phase selector box and the metering box where the VR is located to take a look. I was looking for something obvious like a loose wire or a burned component. Everything looked OK.
Just for the heck of...
Thanks for the two replies. No I did not adjust a pot (or anything else) on the VR circuit board itself, because the 002A ran and produced the correct voltage (120V / 240V) and power for a month. Also when I got it running the panel voltage adjust pot would vary the output voltage from around...
As those of you who assist on this forum know, I bought 4 MEP generators in October 2013. With your generous assistance I got 3 of them running (2 each 002A and 1 each 003A). I used the 4th one as a parts donor to get the other 3 going. Lacking something constructive to do over January I...
I might as well weigh in too. Up until fall of 2013 I never even heard of a MEP generator. Several months ago I bought 4 MEP generators. I had no idea what I was buying or why. THREE of them had stuck reconnect switches (voltage / phase selector switches) either from the get-go or as soon as...
Not in front of my 003A at the moment and I definitely am not one who should second guess Isaac-1 but I think in the 120/240 single phase configuration the two HOT wires are connected to L1 and L3. L2 is not used. The neutral is connected to L0. The 4th wire is the ground.
Yes the 003A can output 10KW for days, weeks, and months at a time. If you are near sea level and if the temp is not 100 degrees you can probably get away with running 12KW for moderate periods of time. Personally I would not try to do that for weeks. Since the max output is 52A #6 wire is...
I assume you did your voltage measurements with a good accurate external VOM and did not rely on the panel mounted volt meter in the MEP. If so the first thing I would do is see if the voltage adjust pot on the MEP panel will vary the output voltage at all before you go any further.
I just...
I think the 002A will be OK. As others have said, you need to do some "load management". That means that you may not be able to run all 3 AC units, the water heater, the stove top. the oven, the well pump (if you have one) the vacuum cleaner, the washer, and the dryer all at one time.
I mounted my 002A and my 003A on trailers so I could move them around the farm or take either to a friend's house if needed. I do not use either OE battery box. I installed my batteries in plastic boat battery boxes and made a hold down tray on the trailer beside each generator. In some of...
Some 5 years ago I also obtained a "used" 600 gallon fuel tank off Craig's List to be used to store "red" diesel fuel for use on my farm. I did most everything mentioned above to clean it out including steam cleaning the inside of the tank. I removed the two bungs on top which gave me access...
The two I recently bought had been sitting over 3 years. If yours ran OK before it was laid up, I would charge the batteries and try to start it up. Once (if) it starts I would look it over carefully for leaks and / or other problems.
I am brand new at MEP generators so take what I am about to suggest accordingly. About 8 weeks ago I acquired a MEP 002A and a MEP 003A. Both had been sitting outside in an equipment yard for at least 3 years. Who knows how much longer they had been sitting somewhere else before they ended up...
