Now I need to find 4 Hawker batteries without falling over from sticker shock. A friend of mine got a whole bunch out of the DRMO a couple of years back but none since then. I put 4 in my Duster and that think could crank the 985 CID engine till the cows came home.
AND replace that darn...
Not exactly a piece of garbage, they are quite ruggedly made and come with fuseable links on the battery connections. This is also the model they sell to the US Military as I understand. Not in the same legue as a Chinese alternator with bearings of sand and windings of pot metal.
I'm with TM here, a second 1 wire alternator and battery is probably the best choice. I didn't want to add a second alternator to my 8V92 in the HEMTT. His kit seems like the best solution and you can get a replacement 1 wire alternator anywhere! 2 - one wire alternators (one each of 12V and...
That is a concern, but you can put a continious duty relay on the 12V output of the equalizer (three battery config) so that the equalizer is only putting out power to the 12V battery when the ign. sw. is on.
Actually Jon, we were both planning to bring our HEMTTs to Tower Park but we've both decided to put it off for a year. His won't be ready, and mine isn't ready for a 1650 mile drive.
Leonard does live very close, we were able to see the "baby" on our way home to Seattle last year.
Arlington, WA to Redmond, WA., about 50 miles I guess. He wanted to deliver it, so I let him. The other person in a boched eBay auction, wanted to make it into a civilian off road wrecker. This truck was almost lost to the MV hobby!
I don't know about working on them, but they couldn't be any worse than my British stuff. I do admit I think they are REALLY cool little vehicles! I think I'd have to stick to a Diesel model though.
 Most of the drool is mine! I saw it on eBay about 4 years back and I couldn't believe that is the same truck. I showed the auction to Jane and told her it was my "dream truck", but it was just too far gone for me. Fast forward 3 years and Damon drove it to my house. There is a lot of...
That HEMTT you saw started out as a total piece of crap, it was Damon's hard work and throwing $40-50,000 at it made it the vehicle it is. The only major original parts are the engine, transfer case, axles and frame. Most of the rest was either made from drawings or sourced used, refurbished...
