I was going to put my "##########" sticker on the HEMTT and then realized I'd then have to put a license plate on it, showing it wasn't military . . . never mind, the sticker will go on my pickup.
We've had more than a few "amphibians": Gama Goat, M656, V100, 5 - Stalwarts and there is only ONE I would EVER swim . . . Stalwart. They have the best protection for keeping the running gear dry, all seals are doubles, one keeping the oil in and the other to keep water out. Even those take...
There is no doubt about it, Leonard is a crafty bugger  I have quite a bit of his handy work here, on and yet to be added to the HEMTT. All his metal work I've seen to date looks like factory, production stuff. Yes, he's that good!:-D
REALLY, no worries about water entering dipsticks, breathers, old seals; hot exhaust manifolds cracking, hot injection pumps doing likewise etc. Then there is the tranmission, transfer case and 4 axles not to mention 40 year old wiring. Hey, you don't have to pay for the damage. It's a TRUCK...
KEWL, I used to have to top up the power steering once a year or two, depending on how much I drove it. It was a nuisance leak that never reached the point of competing with the British vehicles. Even the HEMTT has a few of those, the only one I've fixed on it so far is an axle seal that was...
There is a guy that lives about 50 miles from here that bought a TOTAL POS on ebay for $26,000. The thing was canabalised and a lot of the truck needed to rebuilt. Fast forward 2 years and while attending the Arlington Airshow (Arlington, WA) I saw this very nice HEMTT. I wouldn't even look...
I've heard anwhere from 6-12 in private hands, can't confirm.
GL doesn't sell them because they all go back to Oshkosh to be rebuilt, saving 60-70% of the cost.
Many parts are parts from the heavy truck industry, Oshkosh parts are EXPENSIVE!
There is one at armyjeeps.net near the bottom of...
Here was my '03 Christmas card picture, nothing goes better together than kids, armor and stuffed animals. Some relatives on the other side of the pond weren't too thrilled or amused.
I never found them to work very well, I tried one on my materials handler and it didn't do much. Perhaps I just had a bad one or I live too far north to work effectively.
I like the crane on the back where it is, but I agree it would be a nice way to do it. I could probably get away with it, weight wise, but I think there might be a height problem. Also it sounds like altogether too much work, Damon (DMA251) spent a LOT of time making a nice truck and I'd hate...
Every time I'm out in the HEMTT someone either turns/pulls right in front of me. Sometimes they cut me off and expect me to stop, I'm gonna add my Leslie train horns to it to make them pay for their stupidity by making their ears BLEED!
I was going down one road at 35 mph and someone turned...
