On the missing whiffle pins- I talked to a guy that ran a wrecker at Ft Leonard Wood back in the day. He said they did a lot of lifted towing and never used the whiffletrees. They just ran chain between the two bumper shackles and hooked to that.

I have a well worn rear outer tire, and a brand new spare- so I think - easy to change them out. And they sure are easy to get off- the problem came about when I tried to mount the spare- the holes are too small. Here is a pic- I think you can see the smaller holes. They just fit over the budd...

I'v heard the govt is looking into nitrogen for their new series of auto inflators. Would love to have that contract... refilling low tires with bottled nitrogen.
