Can you point me to a source for the original parts? I haven't been able to find any that match the threaded backing? Pretty cool work and good idea with the eye bolts. You can run safety wire or other rope to keep the cover from flopping around.
I don't think any of the bolt holes that are for the intake manifold would do anything but eventually drain to the oil pan, so if you drain the oil and add new oil before you start it, you should be fine. Now if any water got into the intake passages and the valve was open then you may have...
I had an issue with the bolts on the bed being to short with my 1028, I believe the bolts on the 1028 from some reason go through both the top and bottom frame in a few places and there are spacers for in between the frame. Perhaps this is because it was designed to carry a heavy shelter...
In Cali if your going to use a 5 ton for commercial work, it would seem you'd be in a world of $$$$ hurt. I believe you would be required to replace the engine and bring it to 2010 emissions specs.

I have USAA and my M-818 was covered through an affiliate (Progressive) as they would not take it directly and it was 2K a year. Couldn't justify the expense.
