Subscribed to your thread. There seems to be at least an order of magnitude difference between our budgets. That is great for anyone following the threads as it shows the spectrum from "Po-Boy" to "Open checkbook" approach.
Here are some photos from today.
CUCV heater and blower removed:
Blazer blower/evaporator pre-fitted:
Flange straightened and additional holes match-drilled:
The new rectangular cut-out needs to fit the interior unit:
Do you have the current contact info for CPI? I can't find them on google.
The Vintage evaporator looks great but I need to keep the back of the truck comfortable for my four legged companions hanging out on the mattress.
The old-school Blazer front evaporator/heater/ducting may be better...
What was the price for the brackets and pulley from CPI and are they still selling them separately?
The problem I have with the kits is that they mark up each and every piece and you still need the same installation time compared to using OEM components and generic AC hoses and fittings. Yes...
Just realized that there is another possibility to drive the compressor and the passenger side alternator without an additional crank pulley.
The belt for the passenger side alternator wraps around both the crank pulley and the fan/waterpump pulley in the original configuration. There is enough...
I am finally surrendering to the heat and am going to install an A/C in my M1009.
Here is the plan:
Install evaporator, blower, heater, and duct work from civilian Blazer. This requires minor sheet metal work on the firewall.
Replace evaporator core with new and add Expansion Valve in lieu...
Just saw the following trick on Benzworld:
Get a bicycle inner tube that fits the rim (e.g. 20") lubricate it, shove it between tire and rim, and inflate it to fill the gap. Then, slightly inflate the tire and pull out the squished inner tube.
Hi there, Thanks for the info.
I found these two things online about the 6.2L fuel injection pump.
The first one is a GM video about the 6.2L engine that also covers the pump removal. (The military trucks do not have the secondary filter shown in the video)
And then there is this manual that...
The problem was an air pocket in the fuel system.
I pulled the glow plugs, cracked the HP line fittings on the injectors and cranked the engine until diesel started dripping from the top of the injectors.
After tightening the line fittings and reinstalling the glowplugs, the engine runs great...
After sitting for about four month, my M1009 started right up. However, after about 30 seconds the engine rpm increased slightly and then the engine stopped.
No more fire after that. Checked the fuel filter and verified that there is clean fuel coming to the IP. The shutoff solenoid clicks...
This sounds like either a severe restriction in the fuel lines to or from the pump or a pinhole in the suction line that lets air in. The Flu419 fuel system is easy to bleed and from my observation self-bleeding if you get the engine running with the content of the double filter housing.
With...
You need to buy a brake reservoir cap or two, drill a hole into the cap(s) and plumb the garden sprayer hose into it.
Here is my system (available as a loaner tool if you pay for shipping):
The backhoe boom fully extended and preferably with a full bucket makes an excellent counterweight to stabilize any precarious list (tilt to one side). Additionally, with the leverage of the backhoe boom weight behind the rear axles, the wimpy loader is able to raise the front wheels off the...
I am tempted to organize a group buy for the steering ball joint rubber bellows, the bellows for the hand brake cables, and other tidbits that are Unobtainium here.
With the original tires my FlU419 would sink to the axles in soft soil and since the front loader does not curl down enough to 'roll' yourself out it was the backhoe that saved the day.
After mounting the 14.5 tires the 'sinking' is not an issue anymore but the machine would sometimes slide...
I have the 14.5R20 XL tires mounted on the original rims since about 1 year. They are much, much sturdier than the original 12.5R20 XL Michelins. I was barely able to mount them with hand tools whereas the old 12.5s came off with very little effort. Even if the 14.5s are a little older, I would...
