    Cold Advance issues

Try this: Turn the key on until the "Wait" light goes off. Then, turn key off and back on. When the "Wait" light goes out for the second time, crank. If this makes it easier to start, you may not get enough heat with one glow cycle (due to weak/failed plugs, faulty GP controller/sensor, etc.)...

    Just bought my first CUCV

Looks like he may be past that already. Palmer, AK reports 6 degrees F today. But he has some 'warmer' days (around freezing) coming his way according to the forecast.

    Just bought my first CUCV

Congrats. You live in the right part of the country to enjoy the bare-bone nature of these vehicles. Plush highway rides they are not but, boy, is it sweet having the diesel lazily chug you over miles and miles of back-country trails. In AK you will need a block heater (or better yet one in...

    Cold Advance issues

I can hear the GP cycle by listening to the speed of the defrost fan. The GP are powered well after the "Wait" light goes out and turning the key later helps for lukewarm starts. Before installing and using a manual GP switch I will measure compression and change the GPs. I got the vehicle...

    Cold Advance issues

Just as a side note: I actually like the really old, fully manual systems. After a couple years of practice I can fire up my Piper Cub on the first pull of the prop in any weather. If you do not have an electric starter that allows you to brute force things with long cranking, you have a very...

    Cold Advance issues

Yes, you can hear that clearly if you drive (slowly) immediately after starting a cold engine. Once the pump goes out of high-idle/cold-advance mode, the combustion noise decreases considerably. (High-idle by itself would not change anything while driving with the pump delivery controlled by the...

    Idling the 6.2L diesel engine?

Do you mean ZiggyO ? I have several Espar and Webasto units myself but they are currently 2500 miles away, locked in a container. My recent move to Montana got the pack-rat to far away from the old 'rathole' :-( I will see what ZiggyO can ship.

    Idling the 6.2L diesel engine?

[FONT=Verdana] Idling would only for being on the road in the winter and wanting to take a nap. Thanks for the consumption numbers. How do the semi trucks get away with idling their engines for hours at the rest areas?

    M1031 Generator 208 3 phase conversion?

    Double post, sorry.

    M1031 Generator 208 3 phase conversion?

Wire your distribution panel like this: and use the maximum Amp ratings from this photo in your first post. (The "transformer" in the diagram is of course your generator.)

    Cold Advance issues

My M1009 also starts worst after sitting for a while but not being stone-cold yet. What part are you talking about for 70 bucks at O'Reilly's?

    Idling the 6.2L diesel engine?

The cold weather arrived here in MT before I could get a Webasto cab heater installed in my M1009. At this point, the only way to keep this box warm inside is a running engine. How tolerant is the 6.2L diesel to prolonged idling at normal idle rpm? Is it beneficial for the longevity of the...

Where is the joint of the door seals located?

That makes the most sense. Just wanted to double check. Thanks.

Where is the joint of the door seals located?

I received new door seals today but cannot find any info on where to put the joint (gap). TIA.

BAE MRAP seats in CUCV ?

Thanks for the comments. Did anyone compare the two seat types (tan vs green in pictures)?

tip for starting diesel even though you have total glow plug failure.

There is an arctic kit available that uses a small diesel-fired boiler to heat the coolant. Webasto and Eberspacher make similar, but more high tech, units for this purpose. They work like an electric in-line coolant heater, except you do not need a 110 Volt outlet. Most MVs have plenty of space...

BAE MRAP seats in CUCV ?

Did anyone use the BAE seats P/N: 117795-2 or P/N: 120302-1 in the CUCV or any other MV. How comfortable are they? Do they reline fully and can they be flipped forward to get into the rear of the vehicle? I would mount them on a sub-frame that bolts onto the existing mounting points on the floor.

Help needed to stop me throwing money at my CUCV, Hopping/Vibration

Check whether the bearing caps of the U-joint cross are seated correctly in the yokes. I had similar vibrations, albeit not as severe, due to one bearing cap of the rear U-joint cross sitting on top of the alignment boss (red circle in photo) instead of behind it. (If that is the case, there...

How do you bolt radio antenna mounts to truck?

The holes in the metal need to be the exact size for the rivnuts to clamp securely to the metal. I would repair the dented area with a sheet metal patch and then drill the correct hole size for the rivnuts in the original location.
