    M998 GEP 6.5 turbo 4L80 conversion questions

I recently got a 2-man M998 with troop carrier enclosure from Hill AFB. We have been running this on trails in Montana and Idaho with the troop carrier tarp taken down and our gear stored in plastic tubs in the bed. Overnights are very comfortable under the troop enclosure with an inflatable...

    Electric Fan

Sound like that this is a waste of time and money. I was hoping that the electric fan would prevent the noisy engine-driven fan to engage only in the most severe conditions. Did anyone achieve this with an electric fan? On a related topic: How do they keep the GEP 6.5 turbo engines cooled?

    M998 made it home safely

For the hunting season I will use it unmodified as a simple mobile camp by just throwing a small folding table, a blow-up mattress, and storage tubs in the rear. Later in the year, I will install a Webasto cab heater that was collecting dust for years since it's for 24 Volts. The heater will be...

    M998 made it home safely

Thanks, I will search the manuals for that and check with caliper and digital level how much I have to remove. (Sorry, I am a little behind reading the manuals; thought I would have a longer EUC wait for studying.)

    M998 made it home safely

Thanks. I was hoping the bottom shims would have slots the other way and would slide upwards. Let's see whether removing the slotted shims will be enough to get the wheels close to vertical.

    M998 made it home safely

Thanks for the advice. Yes, there are two shims between the frame and the upper control arm bracket on both sides. The shim facing out has slots on the top and it may be possible to slide it out without removing all bolts completely. The truck sits pretty level (just a little nose down) right...

    M998 made it home safely

Picked up my M998 (6.2L) yesterday from a IP storage yard close to Hill AFB, Utah and drove it back to Bozeman, MT. (EUC took only 1 month, possibly since my name was on file from previous approval). The truck ran great for the 380 miles except vibration from the tires and the cooling fan...

Empty Box Truck going from Montana to Baltimore/Philadelphia (and back)

I am driving towards the end of this week from Bozeman, MT to Elkton, MD and then stay for a week in the Baltimore/Philadelphia area. My 26' box truck with loading platform will be empty on the way East and I will most likely have some capacity left coming back to MT. Let me know if you live...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Add a Rat Terrier to your pack. They have their name for a reason. They are a little smaller than the dog in your avatar (Mountain Feist ?) and are relentless rodent hunters/killers. At the same time very social and easily trainable.

FLU-419 - Removing attachments - Experiance desired & Legal Road Stuff.

I cannot imagine that the FLU419 would handle any worse without the front loader and the hoe. If anything, removing these implements would lower the center of gravity and the total mass, which is a good thing. The ride would be stiffer though. It is not going to be a long haul truck but for...

    M1009 Transmission options question: TH400 vs 700R4

Thanks for the info. I read your threads and a bunch of other ones. Just curious what threads I missed. Could not find a user "Speedmon" or anything close.

    M1009 Transmission options question: TH400 vs 700R4

Since this thread is out of the grave again... Does anyone know where the 700R4 thread is that post #4 refers to?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

WOW! You guys have big cojones - and good earplugs. According to this calculator, the poor 6.2L will turn ~3400 rpm at 70 mph and ~3900 rpm at 80 mph with 4.56 gears and 33" tires. Max horsepower for this engine is around 3600 rpm. At the higher speeds mentioned above you are already over the...

    M1009 to 700R4 and NP241

Thanks for the suggestions. I am watching ebay for the TV-cable bracket. (There is one listed for over $300 and it does not even come with the rod that connects cable to IP lever) Upgraded sunshell, better 3/4 friction discs, Corvette servo, shift kit, and a GM33 torque converter are already...

Does anyone have constructive suggestions or a lead on the TV-cable bracket?

    M1009 to 700R4 and NP241

Should have put "redlining" in quotes or used the term "way out of the sweet spot". With the 4.10 gears I need ~2900rpm to make 70 and the speed limit is 80 here on most highways. Even though the engine did not blow up (yet), the noise is insane and the efficiency definitely not as good as it...

    M1009 to 700R4 and NP241

After driving my M1009 (see modifications in sig line) for a while and having to redline the engine on the highway, I decided to drop in a 4 speed 700R4 with a NP241 transfer case. With this combination the highway speeds will be in the sweet spot of the torque curve. 2000 rpm will yield 73 mph...

BAE MRAP seats in CUCV ?

Thanks for the picture. You have the fancy seats from GSS with the removable back insert (for wearing a camelback). I am looking at the BAE version, which is a little more utilitarian but also a 5-point harness seat.

    Another new member from montana

Looks like we have at least three members in MT (two close to Bozeman and one in Billings). Maybe we should plan a weekend get-together. I would like to check the bobbed M923 out; have picked-up two full sized ones for a friend and was wondering how they would perform bobbed. Are there any...
