    Gear vendor vs. 700r4

I've got an M1028 ,stock drivetrain with a 4" lift and 37"s. I don't know much about a 700r4,but I installed a GV and love it.The only fab work was a shortened drive shaft. I did all installation myself. Also needed to shim with flat bar 7/8th " my transfer case cross member. Simple install. I...

    What has your 6.2 pulled ? MPG's ??

Corvette1974, when I drove my 1028 home from LA after purchase I also got 20-21 MPG @ 55. Gotta love these rigs. You have to be constant on upkeep but if they are dialed in they are awesome. I never drive my Ram 2500 anymore(gasser) and the CUCV beats it on mileage and performance off road but...

    What has your 6.2 pulled ? MPG's ??

I get 17-20 MPG in my 1028 if i keep it @ 65 or less. The Gearvendor helps BIG TIME with mileage and RPM reduction. The GV knocks the RPM's down about 500. I love my truck!

    Need radiator advice. Replace/upgrade

I had my 1028 recored with a`4 cell brass core.Cost 850$ here in San Anselmo @ my local shop. These radiators are the biggest Chevy offered in this GVWR rig and are expensive! I wanted to avoid other engine complications and forked out the dough for the cooling system. No problems since. Engine...

    Fuel shut off solenoid Bad?

Yes the IP fuel shut off solenoid can be relaced without removing the IP. Just did it on my '85 1028. Part is readily available from Standyne. Cost is about 120.00$.They do go bad with symptoms such as truck will die in hot weather. Pouring cold water on solenoid housing will restart usually...

    m1008 axle seal

I've got an '85 1028 and the left rear is a similar situation.I noticed when I replaced the seal that there was slight scoring on the hub.Very slight but enough to allow some leakage.I might try to find a NOS hub next. I tried gentle emery cloth but the right has no scoring and does not leak.aua

    vehicle security

On my 1028 I ran a hidden toggle switch in my IP solenoid (PINK WIRED)circuit. The average car thief won't take the time to trouble shoot a vehicle that cranks but won't start. Simple deterent, low cost.

    Leaking ORD brake hose

It is very easy to split the flair on a brake line.If you over tighten even slightly they will split. When I installed my ORD lift with new ORD brake lines I had the same problem. I replaced all my factory lines on the rear brakes. Bought a bender and carefully duplicated the lines. Pretty easy...

Nice scare on the freeway...now what happened?

Have you considered a Gear Vendor overdrive? I've got one in my 1028 and I also run 37" surplus radials. At 70 mph my Tiny Tach shows 2310 rpm. I never push it above 70. I try to keep it @ 65-70. They are pricey, but work great on the highway. There was a member here that had a complete GV,TH400...

    Dry cut metal saw question

I've got the Dewalt 14" version cold cut saw. Got it on CL used but almost new for 170$. Works great, but as other posters said GO SLOW. I found carbide blades called "Diablo " on line for 40$. The Dewalt blades are 3 times that price . I bought 2 and have done a few fab jobs with very little...

    Problems already with ORD

I'll add to the fray. ORD supplied all the parts for my 1028 4" lift and they were top quality all the way. When I needed technical assistance they were patient and helpful every time I called(which I tried to keep to a minimum with online research). I'm sorry to hear about other members...

    Temperature Sensor Question

On my 1985 M1028, the sensor near the #1 GP is engine temp only, for idiot light or in my case an aftermarket temp gauge. The sensor behind the intake manifold is a 2 wire single connector temp sensor for the GP card/system which assists in duration of GP cycling by reading engine temp.

lighter duty rear leaf springs M1008

Sounds like you've done your research well. Those are the same parts from ORD I replaced on my 1028 4"lift project. They make great products and are generous with technical assistance. Although I did not use zero rate's. Up front I used their Tuff Country HD springs.I only needed to trim very...

lighter duty rear leaf springs M1008

I would highly suggest checking your U-bolts for rust and deterioration. The U-bolt plate on the bottom of the axle traps dirt and moisture leadind to 25 years of rust. The bolts can be half their diameter above the nut. With the lift and 37's your talking more weight. Save the stock shim if you...

lighter duty rear leaf springs M1008

I used the stock rear springs in my1028 but removed the overload leafs when installing the ORD U-bolt kit. Basically turned it into a 1008 rear suspension. I also used ORD's 4" lift with shackle flip. Ride is fine on and off road. The factory springs are fine. Just check for broken leafs...

what do you use for outback comms?

I bought a Motorola Iridium Sat phone used from a Marine back from deployment. Paid 400$ including AC/DC chargers. New they are around 1200$ with all accessories. Basic service is 35$ per month, 1.19$ per minute anywhere worldwide. I only use it in emergencies or hunting trips to check in with...

    "New" M1008 won't start

I had the same problem you describe. I bypassed the resistor-12volts direct to the GP relay.Replaced the relay, GP temp sending unit, and GP card, and installed ac60g's. All parts from CUCV Electric. Truck fired right up and has never run better. Quick GP cycle time and super fast start.Might be...
