got a '91 USMC metal jerry can today and the interior lining is flaked out of the bottom and up the sides a little way. is it salvageable to actually carry fuel in or should I just clean it out inside, shoot some rustoleum in and use it for parades (the initial intent) ?

I cut the lower "ears" off like he had his and put rubber bumpers on the part that goes in the hole and some cut rubber tubing on the bottom. Seems to work ok leaned up against a dropped tailgate or sitting on the top of it.
Nice ladder for the bucks and it's not going to fly out of the back...
