    Glow plug issue engine hot

After replacing the glow plugs (4 were bad) the engine starts amazingly easy when cold. The "wait" light stays on about 10 seconds when cold, everytime. If the engine is not fully cooled down (say I drove it an hour prior) the wait light stays on about 1/4 of a second (i.e. a quick flash) and...

Hard doors vs. soft doors opinions

Has anyone gone to a local seamstress to repair the window zippers? What are good options for that?

Hard doors vs. soft doors opinions

Wanted to get opinions when faced with the choice between soft and hard X-doors for 4-man M1151A1. Which one do you prefer? I have heard people like the soft because can remove easily and, of course, much cheaper. I have heard neither keeps rain out much. Can soft doors be painted or will it...

    water in engine

I have a LMM and have always changed it every 5,000 with conventional, usually Delvac. AC Delco filter. I actually found the K&Ns didn't seal as well.

    water in engine

Finally got the new glows and wires reattached. I couldn't fit my torque wrench in on the passenger side so I just used good judgment. Driver side torqued to 10 ft-lb (120 in-lbs), which is midpoint of TM specs. Fired up!

    water in engine

And a little moisture just tipped it over to a no start? It would be highly coincidental to happen here. It started harder than expected for last month and I suspected glow plugs, but the engine would crank the day before the rain issue. I have heard some say glows are only necessary in cold...

    water in engine

Turning the engine a few times will push it through to clean the turbo after taking out the glows or injectors, correct? Are you making the point that cylinder corrosion is unlikely since your water sat in the turbo? Is that what you did?

    water in engine

So I went the glow plug route. What a pain! The NA trucks without A/C are much easier on the passenger side to work on. 4 of my 8 plugs ohm tested bad, so glad I am replacing them. 2 of mine were swollen: 1 I managed to wiggle out, the other I needed the Black Dog extraction tool. I cracked the...

Just a pan underneath and see if water drips out?

    water in engine

The truck was sloped down (front lower than the back). The turbo is behind the intake pipe. Either not much flowed in because of this or the turbo fins blocking passage or it filled it the top since the water in the intake was standing. I would think if it filled to the top the engine would not...

    water in engine

Fun times. I have been working outside on the engine and had the air intake tube off. I put the hood down last night when finished working. It rained overnight. I noticed water collected in the pipe going into the turbo. I stuck a shop vac in the hole and sucked up all visible water. I...

    My 4L80E trouble codes

What is a safe speed range for the 400A? I read the non load limit of the engine is 4000rpm. Am I correct that there is no rev limiter? Does the pedal contact on the floor board protect against most over-reving?

    My 4L80E trouble codes

My old one was: https://www.hummerpartsguy.com/SENSOR-THROTTLE-POSITION-TPS-HMMWV-SERPENTINE_p_16057.html I think the turbo 6.5 and NA 6.5L are different sensors?

    My 4L80E trouble codes

Thanks. M1151A1. Yes my alt is the size of a small garbage can, the 400A. So the tach figures out the engine RPMs via the alternator belt speed? Cool. I ordered the TPS from "globalsourcewd" on eBay.

    My 4L80E trouble codes

It must have moved a bit and I get slightly different readings but just now I am getting 0.62 V idle and 4.24 WOT. It appears to increase voltage smoothly. It is a new sensor, but I was told there are "new" defective Chinese junk being sold (I won't name the companies mentioned). The way it is...

    Advice Please: Planning 4L80 Conversion

I topped up my TC fluid and the transmission dipstick showed a noticeable increase.

    Advice Please: Planning 4L80 Conversion

I think the larger point is that in the HMMWV application the automatic transmission fluid is pumped through the transfer case in the cooling loop. If one were to add different fluid than the recommended Dex III or VI to the TC it will mix with the fluid in the transmission and could lead to big...

    My 4L80E trouble codes

I loosened the TPS mount bolts and rotated it back (i.e. more upright) and now getting .55V. So "proof of concept". Will need to re-remove air intake to turbo to get better access to those bolts. Fingers crossed it will work!!!??

    My 4L80E trouble codes

Peeled back some insulation on the middle wire. Getting 1.2V instead of .5 (engine off, pedal not depressed). If I loosen the two mounting bolts I should be able to have back and forth play and move it until I get .5 idle and then just verify it smoothly transitions up to 4.5 when pedal...
