HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

I appreciate the heads up but I'm gonna leave the vacuum and charging tasks to a local old timer that runs an A/C auto repair shop. Well, I am running heater hoses to the heater core so that will work too. :D

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Took all weekend to get the Lizard Skin coatings finished. On Saturday I sprayed the sound control (SC) system in multiple coats followed by a 24 hour cure. Today I sprayed the ceramic insulation (CI) system with 4 coats. Another 24 hour cure before any reassembly can happen. Each coating...

    Bonedoc's M35A2 modification thread

Must be nice to be able to work on your MV with 3 hands. Probably shaves 1/3 the time us 2 handers can do. :D

Brake conversion to modern air brakes

Not sure if anything is different for a 5 ton, but I put F-550 disc brakes on my Bobbed Deuce. I originally left the system powered by my factory air pack, but when the air pack started to leak I converted to a Hydroboost system. http://hanksdeuce.com/disc_brake_conversion.htm...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Still working on the A/C. Ripped everything out of the cab (final teardown) so the Lizard Skin coatings could go in next weekend.

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

I'm actually a mechanical engineer. But what I don't already know (i.e. electrical stuff) I can figure out by reading and gathering information. :)

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Gutted the interior today. Man what a lot of work removing the air system and both 12v/24v electrical fuse panels, relays and breakers. Lizard skin sound control followed by insulation coating go in next weekend. I found a 24v on delay relay that I will use to delay the start-up of the 12v...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Sorry for your troubles. Glad you had another axle to swap in there. Me and the other bobbed deuce owners don't seem to have that rear axle binding problem. :-P

    M977 HEMTT Acquisition

Congrats on the purchase. What tires do they have for 70mph speed? My 16R20 Michelin XZL tired are only rated to 55mph. Maybe getting into the safety factor?

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

More A/C install updates... - Mounted the Cummins High Mount A/C bracket to my engine - Installed the same alternator I've been using on my Cummins engine - Installed the Sanden 4474 compressor inside the high mount A/C bracket - Modified the upper alternator bracket to become the tensioner...

More A/C install updates... - Mounted the Condenser on the back of the cab with McMaster-Carr rubber isolators - Mounted the 2 SPAL 14" puller fans (40A, 12 volt, 1623 cfm each) - Wired the fans and tested them. Wow!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

No safety chain of some sort?

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I prefer Ascension Fasteners. MUCH cheaper than Fastenal. I've heard that for some items at Fastenal you have to buy in bulk to get one. That's crap.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Continued A/C install. Mounted the condenser at the rear of the cab. Put 2 large 14" puller SPAL fans. Started mounting the compressor and engine brackets. Upper alternator bracket will be dropped off to a machine shop for minor modifications. A few long metric bolts will be sourced from...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2015 - August VOTE HERE

Why are the pictures so small for the potential candidates (200x150 pixels)? I'd like to see what I'm voting for without opening the nomination thread. :D

    m35 wiper blades

I have electric wiper motors on my bobbed deuce. I converted to Trico Rainguard 31-130 (13" blades) for $10 total that can be found at almost any parts store (O'Reilly's). Not sure what wiper arms you have, but take a look at my modification to see if you can make them fit for your...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Glad you got her back together. One helluva accomplishment getting the engine rebuilt. I think I took it easy and just replaced the entire engine/tranny. Keep us updated on your assessment after the overhaul.

    AVM hub install.....flange bolt question

The hub bolts where the lockouts mount are all right hand threads that take 70 ft-lbs of torque to tighten. I have the Ouverson lock-out hubs and love them!
