Yes, you'll need to pull the fuel shutoff rod to remove the Hyd head. If I were in there and the button has fallen off, I'd want to put a new retaining clip on the button.
Just remember, volume over pressure. The pressure will kick in as long as you have enough volume, or when the motor starts. As long as there is a layer of oil, you will be fine.
Honestly its mostly basic stuff I wouldn't worry about till it breaks down. Most any auto parts place should have it. Bearings and races, wheelcyls, not so much. Shoot me an address in a pm and I might be able to send a set of take-outs if time permits
I know I'll get flack for it, but this is the best kit(minus wrenches) for a deuce. It has mostly 6 point sockets which is important IMHO. Make sure you get a full compliment of wrenches to go with it. You can pick it up for $180 with tax if you find it on sale or a coupon...
I would measure 5he depth of the brake you are using to make sure there is no difference in a deuce brake, and whatever trailer brake you have. Also pull the anchor pin and measure that. Obviously something isn't right. I would be very leery of welding on the adjuster like that.
