    Fixing the 1998 HMMWV

Congrats on your progress! As to paint, the RAPCO 383 series paints are an excellent match, made for HMMWVs. They will be more vibrant (though still tactical flat finish of course) because they are new, so you may want to plan on total respray. BDGR

    All glow plugs burned out.

Most of the time folks attribute it to the start box going bad. There are plans on this site to rebuild the smart box to a 'dumb' box, with a push button to send power to the (new) glow plugs. Many like this. It's not too hard to DIY if you've some soldering experience, or can find a friend to...

HMMWV Hood Lift gas shock - anyone MADE one?

Just the driver's side or one on both sides? BDGR

    Front differential alignment

    What matters is... it works!

    Front differential alignment

And the engine/trans doesn't sit square either. Things are kinda jammed in there, but they work!

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Looking good. Taking a break is usually a good idea, to let the wallet and back recover.

    Civilian part numbers

I'll chip in with this link to the Hummer Knowledge Base which has some part numbers and cross references as well: http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/HMMWV.html Bulldogger

Getting to it... CAMO tip of the day

I think my DB2 needs a refresh too. I called a local place and they said just buy a rebuilt one online. It’s not worth their effort to rebuild mine. There’s a place in Pensacola on eBay that has them for $600 or so. They have very good feedback ratings. I’ll probably order from them. I’m going...

    Great idea CAMO!

Any ideas for stickies re.: CAD/CAM AND 3D software/hardware.

A simple replacement dash sounds like a good idea. The biggest challenge to the design that I can see in my mind's eye is that most 3D printers are limited on build space, so the design would have to be modular and then assembled. Maybe that means making different modules that can be assembled...

Any ideas for stickies re.: CAD/CAM AND 3D software/hardware.

I think this is a good idea TOBASH. Many of us have done some piddling around making parts here and there. We do have a section, but no one has stepped up to moderate and curate it (unless I missed it). Here's an info bit: I heard Autodesk has free or cheap subscriptions for veterans , for...

Hey @SGSC-G4, are you the range master again this year? My family and I would like to do some shooting. We'll be there Friday through Sunday mid-day. How should we arrange the opportunity? See you soon, Bulldogger, SWMBO and Little Dog

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Replaced the clear vinyl in my front passenger soft door this morning. First I cut a piece of 40ga marine vinyl to fit and then glued it to the zipper. This was to hold it in place while I stitched. Then I had to disassemble the foot of my HD sewing machine to get the frame under it. I could...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Made time last weekend and the last two evenings to get the new water pump on. Also replaced the failed trans/oil cooler. Everything appears to be working and no leaks spotted. Still a lot of noise from the power steering system but I expect it will even out once all the air is run out of it...

Graves Mountain Rally Syria Virginia 2024

I start a whirlwind of maintenance this Saturday morning. We will get the new water pump on the 6.5TD and plumb the new transmission/oil radiator and any other maintenance I can get done before 8/28. Going to try for the full lube order, as it's definitely time for that. I have some helpers...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I hear ya. Since I'm not a professional, and doing this outside with standard tools, I expect 10 hours is unlikely for me too. I'm going to call in favors to increase manpower on it, hoping that will help. Time will tell. BDGR

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Replaced the glow plugs, as they had all burned out. Starts much easier. I was soooooooo happy that none were swelled. It was still incredibly tedious to get them out and replaced, with most of the work done w/ a 3/8 combination end wrench. Also figured out that the garage that installed my new...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Am envious you found a radiator repairman. There are none left where I live. I went with the Champion and it's great though. Still, I've had other vehicles and will no doubt again have other vehicles that could have used a place that can repair radiators. Take everything you can to him, before...

    It's alive!!!

The water separators I have are all OEM and all plastic, for what it's worth. Having one is the priority, less so the material IMO. BDGR

IAD, Dulles Airport, is a half hour closer than Reagan (DCA) and escapes the DC beltway traffic. It would be my preference. That said, if Reagan is noticeably cheaper, it's not a terrible drive. Avoid Baltimore Washington International (BWI). Many airlines try to steer you to BWI with cheaper...
