Update: I will sell both "big a$$" boxes; it fits in the back of the LMTV like a traditional truck box.
Its girth interferes with the function of the troop seating and because I am inexplicably insistent upon not removing the troop seats, I have decided to part ways with both boxes.
Also, in...
OK, so I'm going to dust this off because I'm a bit lost.
I was able to wire a keyed ignition in place of the pushbutton start (literally, in the place where the pushbutton was), that also eliminated the rocker switch for the battery.
Now I want to dial it back since I was told independently...
4523 is the code, and yes, the MODE light stays lit along with it, so I can't clear the code.
Suprman told me to check the wiring harness, and I just found the associated task in the TM.
So the thread title pretty much says it all...
I'm looking to find a good, existing 12v circuit I could add a small fuse panel to that would power exterior LED floods, USB phone chargers etc.
I plan on splicing into the ignition power for the stereo and rear camera, but other than those, where...
The process / expense of going from this:
To this:
Has exhausted my time & resources. I'm now woefully behind on the HoneyDo list and have dug a substantial financial hole from which I need to emerge.
Unfortunately it is doubtful I will make it to Denton, but the "big a$$" boxes are $300 ea.
I have 50 cal, 40mm, and 60mm ammo cans for $10 ea as well.
LMTV shackles are $50 ea., without assuming shipping cost. I can probably stuff a couple in a prepaid USPS box for a flat rate shipping cost...
Off the top of my head I have 13 LMTV shackles, over a dozen different sized Hardigg cases that are manageable size (for reference, a bit smaller than M1078 driver's / co-driver metal boxes) if you want water tight storage in your MV while still freeing up some real estate.
I don't know if...
If you separate the transfer case from the transmission (make sure to undo 6 o'clock bolt on rear housing), and remove the long stretch of exhaust, including the muffler (clamps at joints: 1/2" ratchet works), then there should be enough clearance to get the transmission out from underneath with...
***UPDATE***
The transfer case swap is complete, and the M1078 is running!
Thanks again to @wheelspinner and @simp5782 for their help.
Huge thanks to @Suprman who offered his expertise on the issue and navigated me through the final straits. I cannot overstate how amazing it is that people...
It was bad enough standing there with my two (2) pseudo-functional LMTVs when wheelspinner showed me a pic of his with a crane, but now you just have to pile it on, eh? 😂
Just to give you an idea of costs (prepare for pucker factor), places charge ~$140/hr for labor, and Fayetteville charged me 15 hrs though it took "28 hrs".
If it makes a God awful grinding noise at the top end of 6th and all of 7th gear, that's a transfer case issue, not tranny, FYI.
M1078 and M1081 home at last!
HUGE thanks to simp for the new-to-me transmission and all his knowledge in isolating the T-case as the issue post-swap.
Another HUGE thanks to wheelspinner for driving to Fayetteville yesterday to diagnose the remaining issue with the truck (isolated T-case as...
I hear you @coachgeo , I did some serious soul-searching when the numbers hit me this morning.
The rest of the truck is in pretty great shape, aside from the cab not raising, as far as I can tell.
Haven't had a chance to get to know every inch yet, since I drove is just far enough to require a...
I'm attaching the PDF of the documented work completed / quote for additional work for everyone's benefit.
If anyone has any input (aside from the tranny cost being stupid inflated), please advise.
