You found the cause of your problem but for everybody else, use Viton tubing from an industrial supply house. The original tubing was Viton but most of the aftermarket stuff isn't. The aftermarket tubing will be hard and full of cracks after a year or two of daily driving. With good quality...
I used to run the Propel fuel that was available about 10 years ago in my CUCV. I was refilling every 5 days on regular diesel and 4 days on Propel. That was a full 20% reduction in economy. While it was less expensive it wasn't worth the extra time to get to the pump.
Modern bearings come packed with polyurea grease which is not compatible with most parts store greases. Do not regrease ball bearings without thoroughly cleaning the bearing or using the correct polyurea thickened grease. Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty is a polyurea grease but is an EP grease so it...
I run a fleet John Deere 4045 engines at 10% load 95% of the time with short spikes into the 75% region. We expect nearly 40,000 hours out of a generator set. Wet stacking has not been a problem.
Stainless braided lines are not typically DOT approved due to issue related to salts (coastal or road) and stress corrosion cracking.
Edit: I assumed these were wheel brakes but not realize it's likely an exhaust brake.
As I describe above Champion was the worst filter I have cut and pressed. I would not recommend it for 5k+ oil changes. The nitrile anti-drainback valve was one thing but the fact that the filter media couldn't survive being pressed was shocking.
The EPDM (Gates Safety Stripe)hoses are sensitive to damage from oil exposure so if you have a leaky engine silicone will be a better option. Otherwise, they'll both provide long life at vastly different price points.
One interesting note about silicone hoses is that they are permeable. Water...
Fram uses cellulose fiber (I won't say cardboard) end caps for their filters. This creates the perception of cheap. Is it a problem? I don't know, the filter media is cellulose as well so why would there be a problem having cellulose ends?
Have you considered offsetting the front axle forward? I did the ORD zero rate and was able to fit 37 inch tires with only minor trimming of the front of the fender.
If you cut open filters to check engine condition you'll quickly become a fan of Wix.
My wife used to take her Toyota Corolla in for service before I met her. The shop used Champ brand filters. Made in USA. I did a cut. It has a Parker anti-drainback valve. it was nitrile rubber and rock hard...
The atomic components of the additives don't go away. If you have 3000 ppm zinc from ZDDP you will still have 3000 ppm zinc as the ZDDP molecules break down. The only way these numbers change is by dilution, usually from mixing brands with different packages. For example, Chevron' Delo SDE uses...
The IRFT test typically requires two samples (new and old) to be run and costs around $400 for each test. You can test for zinc and phosphate individually but you can't determine if the are still in the ZDDP molecule or have been sheared out without doing IRFT
If you see high iron and lead that...
We should all understand the shortcomings of oil analysis before putting much faith in it.
It's great for defecting fuel in oil. You can test for this without a lab (inclined plate test).
You can detect water in oil with a spoon and a lighter.
Wear particles means the failure has already...
