The last thing I've been working on was to get the primer covered up before winter time. I'd originally planned on doing the full 3 color woodland camo, and I still may at some point, but I like the way it looks solid green for now so it's going to stay like it is for now. Here are some pictures...
When I figured out that my shutterstat wasn't working, I took it apart only to break the thermal module in the process. I'm waiting on my replacement to arrive, but while I was into the cooling system I decided to go ahead and flush everything out and add a coolant filter system. It was very...
It's been a while since I've posted anything, largely because I've been busy trying to get work done on the truck. I've gotten the interior a little closer to 'finished', and taken the truck on a few short trips.
I've also gotten the toolbox made for the back. It is made from 1/8" steel and...
My M109 was a 1990 rebuild and had water leaks at some of the riveted seams in the roof, as well as at most of the window frames. The body seams all had a polyurethane caulk around the edges, which I replaced with a Loctite brand polyurethane caulk (Loctite PL S40 specifically). I know others...
I also vote for complete replacement of the wood, and inspection of the metal underneath to determine what's best. The oak flooring on mine looked fine but had a slight creak in one spot when you stepped on it. When I got the boards removed, I swept up 8 gallons of rust prior to removing all the...
I am planning to come Friday after work in the M909 and stay through at least Saturday afternoon. It just didn't work out for me to be able to take time off work to get there any earlier.
On my M923A2 the bolts you referenced were carriage bolts and were just to hold the wood slats to the bottom of the bed. If you are just moving the bed backwards 2-3", you should not need to mess with them.
I've not done much on the truck in the last couple weeks but I thought I'd show what I have managed to accomplish. I mounted the first of the upper cabinets a few days ago. This one overlaps the window a bit in front of the kitchen sink, but it's where I wanted it in order to hold the range hood...
I found a few pictures of Zout's work on here as well as several useful pieces of information. I think he intentionally didn't post much about his build, which I understand and respect his decision to do so. I did use MS Paint and a side shot of his truck to get an idea of how my truck would...
QUADJEEPER, your build is progressing quite nicely. You've done a lot of fantastic work, and I'm watching your build closely to find ideas I can "borrow". :-D
I did want to offer one suggestion. You appear to have found the same water tank that I have used in my camper truck build. I found a...
CARNAC,
I would like information on my two trucks, please.

Thanks! Yes, water entry is a concern, but it hasn't been a problem so far. The way the A/C unit is mounted, it would direct any water all the way through instead of letting it get inside the wall, which would be worse in my mind. I've driven it through some decent rain this past year and not...
After what's shown in my last post, you're up to date with the work in the RV area.
This past Summer, I had a sheriff's deputy come over and inspect the truck to prove that it met Indiana's criteria for a recreational vehicle - that it be equipped solely with living quarters. The deputy was...
As you can see in my last post, I did the pressure side plumbing with PEX. For durability and ease of installation, it seemed like the obvious choice to me. I sized the areas under the bed / kitchen seats such that I could fit a 46 gallon fresh water tank under each side. Currently I've only got...
Thanks! I laid out the wheel wells and mounting points in CAD before actually doing the swap so I could see how things would line up. I put the center of the tandems in the same position with the van body as what it had been on the M109, so each of the wheel openings is off by the same amount...
I actually live in Edinburgh, but no one seems to know where that is so I just put Indianapolis. It's the closest place that everyone seems to recognize.
Thanks again for the warm welcome, everyone!
With the inside sheet metal repair essentially done, I started the modifications to actually make it into an RV. The first order of business was mounting the air conditioner. I bought a 6k btu window unit from Menards and made a bracket out of angle iron to mount it to the front wall where the...
With the floor in place, I started cleaning up the exterior of the van body. Because I could see a few spots where the most recent coat of CARC was peeling away, and I had a few areas where there appeared to be rust under the paint, I elected to strip the paint off of one side of the van body at...
As I mentioned in my new member introduction thread, my first military vehicle was my M109A3. Mid way through the rust repair on the van body itself, which was desperately needed prior to my intended camper conversion, I purchased an M923A2 from GovLiquidation and changed my plans a bit. I...
I did a lot of research on how to remove the van body, and every option I found was either really expensive, going to take forever to do with the equipment I had available, or I didn't feel safe doing it with the weight of the van body. Paying for the crane rental cost about half what a set of...
