Re-wiring the whole truck: enough is enough

Oh, a quick comment on 24 volt electrical: I'm not doing it for NATO vehicle compatibility or mil spec originality. A single line of arithmetic says that, for a particular power need, if I double the voltage then I can halve the current. That means wires can be smaller diameter, if they aren't...

Re-wiring the whole truck: enough is enough

OK, the fuse panels arrived; back ordered for months. I'm thinking one fuse panel for 12V stuff, the other for 24V. You see, contrary to the crowd that migrates the electrical system to all 12V, I'm going the other way: 24V fuel pump, lights, fan, winches.

    I want a yeller CAT

Automatic, yes. I could only get maybe 45 mph out of the A3, I did not know the Allison was the limiting component. I blamed that on the 6.72 gearing. I'll do some research on the 545, thank you.

    I want a yeller CAT

I really liked the 3116 in the 'A3 I used to own. It doesn't fit into the M1009, of course, but, not one to be confused with facts, I want one anyway. A professional trucker tells me this CAT variant is considered disposable since you can only get about half a million miles on it then cannot...

    Best Civi 2 inch hitch?

"with a torch & welder you can do anything" Thats an old Indian saying that I just made up.

How much is this M1028 worth?

Some interesting parts on it: looks like the steering box is ported for a rock ram, the steering shaft upgraded from the rag joint, high steer arms, aluminum radiator w/dual electric fans, new leaf springs. So, yeah, with the D60/14BFF detroits you have $4K of parts in it.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

24 bolt wheels & load range E tires They "came off" an up-armored Humvee. After finding out that the Blazer weighs a porky 6120 lbs, I decided I want more margin. I liiiike margin.

    Axle swap or not

The CUCV 1008 pickup axles, like I have on my Blazer, are geared 4.56. With 37s the engine is working hard at 60 MPH. So, with the smaller 33s you are planning, yes, I agree 3.73 would be a good choice.

Here: http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/tubedoors.htm I really like them, so much more visibility on the trail. Especially when you want to see drop off on the passenger side.

CUCV manual glow plug switch install issue

Me too...but then, my starting position was the 33 year old truck had no residual value to start with. So where does THIS wire go anyway :)

Throwing money down the CUCV hole

Mine is a rust free AZ truck, I have ~$15K into it, and I'm not done yet. So I can only imagine how much a rusty truck could cost.

    Gen1 Light and Small Fire

I'm trending the other way as I like the 24 V system: a 24V electric fuel pump left over from the M35A2 and a 24V electric winch. Off topic, I know. Maybe "start" another thread.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Took the truck for a spin in the 108 degree heat, just to verify all systems are "Go". Now, all of MY systems might not be Go, but the truck is good :)

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

performed gravimetric analysis on the M1009 That is, I had it weighed :) Steer axle 3120 lb, drive axle 3000 lb, gross = 6120 lb. That is with a full tank of diesel + 2 spares + full CO2 tank + spare driveshafts + jack + tools. Don't forget I have a cage & rock sliders installed. And me, after...
