    M818 as a first truck - opinions

M818 is a good first truck. They are simple mechanically but, 5 ton parts are heavy. I like the power steering and the larger brakes of the M809 series trucks are better than the M35A2 in my opinion even though they are both air over hydraulic. The later M939 series trucks have power steering...

    Towing 5-ton with running engine

Is there a driver in the towed vehicle? If that is the case it should be no problem to keep the towed vehicle in line with the tow vehicle. As long as the tow bar is strong enough to not collapse and the tow vehicle can stop the towed vehicle, there should be no problem. A U.S. military A frame...

    M915A1 Governor Help

I think the red line is 2300 RPM for the BCIII. I run about 60 MPH at 2150. Anything between 56 and 60 MPH feels good as a cruise speed.

This is what you see when you look up past the throne of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo didn't have time to paint in here so they had Ray do it.

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2019 - May VOTE HERE!

I'm in the process of converting my M373A2 into a RV/Rally camper. I have a lot of pictures and will start a build thread when I get a little more done. In the mean time here are a few pictures to start out. The trailer was your basic storage type. There were no windows or electrics added and...

If it's like the M818, it's on the outside of the frame behind the driver's side front tire. .

2019 Sanford Florida Memorial Day Parade May 27

I'll be there with something, probably the M915. I'm looking forward to it, thanks for taking the event coordination over.

    REO M275 truck tractor

+2, make sure you know what the brake fluid is. One of my trucks that I got back in the GL days had DOT 3 in it and I poured DOT 5 in. Fortunately I noticed it (it's easy to tell because they don't mix) and suctioned out the mixture and put DOT 3 in and was good to go. Looks like a nice truck.

No longer broke down in Flagstaff AZ; need transmission.

At this point I would see if I could get someone to tow or trailer me home before I run out of money. The alternative is park it some place until you can get enough money and parts together to go get it.

    alternator question

Test alternator #2 on the truck with the engine running by running a jumper wire from the alternator's B+ terminal to regulator terminal #1. This will turn on the regulator and the alternator will charge if it works.

    M35A2 batteries???

I like the screw terminals. It makes for a cleaner installation.

    alternator question

The picture of the alternator plug shows the crimp splice is on the #1 regulator terminal. That is the exciter terminal and turns on the regulator. I don't think you can tie alternator #1 and #2 together this way on the original isolated ground system. Does the other end of the jumper go to...

    M1009 lacks power

CUCVs are slow under the best conditions. 8000 feet elevation is not the best condition. Having driven a 1984 GMC 3/4 ton pickup with the 6.2 all over the pacific north west in 1989, I can tell you for a fact at high elevation you are going to see a lot of smoke and not much go. The truck is...
