Yeah it does help. Thanks. That's the part I was concerned about.
I did speak to the guy at the hardware store. He said the ones he had were mild steel. Not hardened or heat treated or anything. Suitable for use on say an electric motor. I'm not gonna risk it.
It looks like I'm gonna have to...
Yes they would. I was trying to get this project down this weekend. A local hardware store has woodruff keys the same size. If I could get it from them, provided they are the same, it would be great.
So I was able to locate the keys at a couple Chevy dealerships within 2 hours of my house. I'm really not wanting to drive that far for an $0.85 part and I would like to have it by the weekend.
Does anybody see any reason why I couldn't use a key from a hardware store? Provided it was the same...
Thanks DH. I was gonna look up the number in the TM when I got home from work. Of course I forgot about it.
Then I saw your post and thought to myself, "I forgot to look the number up in the TM".
Awesome, those were the kind of answers I was looking for.
I'm gonna get a new key before I do this project. I'll post up my results on tracking down a key.
$800 is not a bad price. You spending $600 on a nice Jeep top.
I'm absolutely getting one. It's been on my radar for a while. When you get it installed, please post a lot of pictures. Especially of the mounting. I don't think a lot of people people have seen them up close.
Have fun!
I just went through this whole mess. Mine frayed and stuck wide open.
I tried units from every parts store Oreilly, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Napa. None of them fit right. The GM part was discontinued years ago and NOS ones are far and few between and fetch a lot.
I had to get one used from a...
For the prices I found onilne I think I'm just gonna go with GM one.
I talked to the guy I usually deal with at Oreilly and couldn't find the one you were talking about.
I actually just did.
A GM one ranges from $85-$130, depending on where you get it online.
Dormant is $65 at rockauto
And the ATP one, which I know nothing about ands have never heard of the company is $76
I guess I made my decision. Didn't really do a price comparison. Thanks DH
Yeah. That's why I was asking. I've had various experiences with Dormans quality.
It's a pretty important part so I'm kinda being picky about what to put on.
I'm getting ready to purchase a new balancer and wanted to run a few brands by you guys. I found this thread and rather than start a new one I'll add to this one.
Would I be better of going with a GM replacement or an ATP brand one I found on rockauto. I think I've heard of the name ATP before...
And do yourself a favor and get the genuine GM bolts. They are of nicer quality than the Chinese part store bolts.
