Consequences of Failed Interlock – When the Grid Feeds Your (out-of-sync) Generator

Dammit John, You let the magic smoke out, now it will never work until we gather that all up and stuff it back in!!

First Lesson About Operating My Generator In Cold Weather

I hope you left that cover open! pouring hot water on something in freezing weather just guarantees it is going to freeze tighter and much faster soon after you do that. Best thing to do is get it open and then spray it with WD40 to get rid of the water and after that lube the hinges with spray...

    240V 3ph on MEP-806B. Is it safe?

I have been following this but since I am not an electrician I have not commented on it but I did notice one thing that caught my eye on the seeders spec sheet, voltage MAX 240. That means it is set up for a MAXIMUM of 240 volts, not set up specifically for only 240 volts. Any electrical...

    240V 3ph on MEP-806B. Is it safe?

If you are thinking that you can hook this too your house directly then you cannot unless your house is wired for 3 phase which is highly unlikely. I am not an electrician but I know you cannot connect three phase to single phase.

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

I am intrigued with the automotive batteries, I am assuming you get these from wrecks or replacements? Where do you source them? And rough cost?

    MEP-002A just shuts off

Could it be a critter nest in the air box causing an overheat condition and shutting down on overheat?

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

AND, If you use everything all at the same time. What are the chances of using the induction plate, the convection microwave (on convection at that) AND the instant pot all at the same time? Is the water pump 220 volt? If so it won't be bad and it will be a surge and that is not an issue. If it...

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

No, I didn't win, I suffer from constant headaches and I lost most of my hearing. The only win was I didn't die.

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

I have been on BOTH ends!!! In Vietnam there were a couple of times where they called in "danger close" with 155's. This is something I was not ready for and never, ever want to go through again!!!! Usually it was smaller stuff that they brought in that close. We were already pretty well dug in...

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

I have been to Alaska a couple times in the summer, this goes back to before the AlCan highway was paved! I drove a truck up there and I never had so many flat tires in my life and on that road you change your own. That was when I found out about Alaska's state bird, The huge freakin...

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

I lived off grid for two years in Maine, myself and my girlfriend. This was in the 70's so no solar, no generator, no electricity. Nearest town was 50 some miles but we only went there every 6 months or so and definitely not in winter. but still want our luxuries like heat, running water, a...

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

This is exactly what I was thinking in my first reply. I was a bit off on the generator dates because for some reason I keep mixing up my 002 with an 802. Old age, what can I tell you. But you have to remember that the military had access to an unlimited parts supply AND they did not have to...

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

I think an AC generator is a must in case something happens to the invertor. I am assuming through all of this that you will be using wood for heat?

Advice needed. Which genset for off grid?

If you are living off grid in Alaska that usually means far off the main roads and such. An 802uses roughly 1/2 gallon of fuel per hour of run time. Even running it 12 hours a day is 6 gallons a day, times 4.3 equals 25.8 gallons a month. And if you are far enough off grid so as to need a...

MEP 002a Not producing Electricity, I am looking for someone who is familiar with the 002a to work on it.

As much as I love military generators, at that point I am going to Harbor Freight for a Chinese special! Power goes out around me quite often and say what you will but several of my neighbors have those Chinese sets and they just run and run, 24 hours a day. And like they tell me, for what they...

MEP 002a Not producing Electricity, I am looking for someone who is familiar with the 002a to work on it.

"Like I said, not hard to remove. You basically need a flame thrower and a nice hammer." I love it. But he said the stator was replaced already so that would tell me to look at the wires on the plug. It may have just been a bad plug all along? I seems to me that this set had an issue...
