Making stationary engines more efficient when loads are reduced

A vfd (variable frequency drive) takes ac inverts it to dc than through a set of transistors created a pulse width modulated synthetic ac output at a user specified frequency. This allows motors to be started slowly and run at different speeds. A soft start is basically a smaller dumber...

Making stationary engines more efficient when loads are reduced

The last time I had to look into it (approx 2 years ago) it was cheaper to soft start. But you never know you might get the deal of a lifetime. You also have to make sure the motor is rated to operate with a vfd, some of them dont work well with the carrier frequency (burnt windings is a smell...

Making stationary engines more efficient when loads are reduced

If you are not changing the electric motor speed you are better off using a soft start vs vfd. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

Generator Hook up 1 phase zig zag or double delta

In the above example 1 is line 1 6/4 is neutral 2 is line 2. 3/5 is a winding interconnect. So 1 to 2 is 240 volt. 2 to 6/4 is 120 and 1 to 6/4 is 120. Keep in mind this is an oversimplified explanation of how the physics work. In practical application there is a bit more to it (since its a...

    genset loadbanks

The one i built has run for 4+ hours at a time. There is enough air flow to prevent damage. I attached all 3 tubes to a steel plate then attached that to an airhandler blower. Ill try to get you some photos if you need them. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

    genset loadbanks

Depends on the fans they use. If the fans use a 3 phase motor it wont work. I used a fan and some dryer heater elements (got 3 for 120) they are 5500 watt each and can be wired into thirds (they are essentially wye tapped) Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

    Generator purchase advice

I used a generac 200 amp service rated transfer switch. Generator side I have 2 relay boards one is outputs to the generator the other is inputs back to my plc. I figured out what the contacts on the switches are doing at each step of the starting process and paralleled them. I replaced the...

    Generator purchase advice

I used an automatic transfer switch. I completely automated the generator and transfer switch. You can use a double throw safety switch and indicator light on the utility side fairly easily Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

    Generator purchase advice

If it helps with the single phase mod I can run my 004 at 72 amps. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

Weak air intake on an MEP-803A

Disclaimer: I have never touched this model, nor do I claim expertise on it. That being said, my best guess stuck/improperly seated valve/improper lash. I cant imagine checking valves being that difficult. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

Consequences of Failed Interlock – When the Grid Feeds Your (out-of-sync) Generator

Interlocks have a very special place with me, I have some friends that never went home because of them.

Consequences of Failed Interlock – When the Grid Feeds Your (out-of-sync) Generator

Definitely a thing to watch. We had one at a water plant (wasnt syncing utility was 2 paralleled sets) and the operator misread the syncroscope. Tldr one gen set jumped off its pad. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

    MEP-004a

All you really need is 24 volt momentarily on the field to start the process. I cant recall what the factory flash is. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

    MEP-004a

At a glance I question the rating of your regulator, its spec sheet indicates that it is for a field of 15 ohms minimum, your field is 2 to 4 ohms. It might be too small. I did something similar with a 005, and needed to parallel 2 regulators to keep the field up. Sent from my SM-G973U using...

MEP-804B - New to me, I have a few questions

Ideally youd want a transformer that has adjustable input taps (for voltage correction) and somethint you can retap the secondary on (this way you could do a double delta or low zigzag)

New Potential Owners - Generator Model Numbers ARE Important!

The only way someone could use this would be of they have a very large inverter (offgrid solar guys) even then you would need a rectifier. But yes. Look before you leap. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
