I put 395 MVt's on the stock deuce wheels. I saw the lack of clearance between the tire and inner fender gills, as well as the drag link. So then I had two stock wheels widened to 10 inches by adding three inches from extra wheels. The additional width was added to the outside, moving the tire...
I am one comepletely satisfied with the Goodyears. I live in the desert so sand is what we have, but it continues to amaze me how well the truck does in the deep sugar sand. Of course this is aired down. I have been off-roading for almost four decades with everything from two to six wheels. They...
Replacement seat shock
I had difficulty finding a replacement seat shock using part numbers on this site (snowmibile front ski shock). I found a big truck cab shock that seems to be the ticket with a little mod. It is a Monroe gas magnum cab shock part number M66104. The bushings for the...
Hey chigger, now that you are back, can you put up some pics? I know I have done some things to mine that not everyone approves of but I do take the intent of their advise to heart.
X2 to what Recovry said but I will add that I read on this site that some have experienced failure of gov surplus hoses that are new. I went to a DOT certified hose place and had the originals duplicated for that reason.
Multiply the torque wrench reading by the gear wrench ratio. That does not take into account friction so people are hesitant to tell you to do it this way since it will take away from the output torque value. But, it would probably be equivalent in accuracy to the half-back method. The best way...
CARNAC, I believe the troop seats have provisions for easy removal from the original application. I think that is the reason for the ratchet tie-down deal on the bottom. I do not have access to an MRAP to see exactly how it works there but I would think it would be doable to make them removable...
That is part of the reason for changing the seat-back angle. If you don't change the angle, the backrest hits the back of the cap with little clearance between the steering wheel and seat back. Changing the angle to closely appoximate the angle of the original deuce seat gets room back. If there...
Yeah, I looked at using those but did not want to give up three-across seating, have to relocate the parking brake handle, or have the driver's seat centerline offset considerably from the steering wheel centerline. They are mighty nice though. They would probably be cool with two seats and a...
It is fairly easy to test the mixture for alcohol content using a graduated cylinder or beaker, it just may take some time. Get a volume of sample, say half of the capacity of your beaker. Then add water, maybe 10 percent of the sample volume. Stir gently until mixed and then allow to settle...
Seat pics
Here's some pictures. The plate has a cutout area for the seat adjuster on the stock springer. The bolts are countersunk flatheads to clear the springer base while sliding fore/aft. The passenger seat bracket reuses the original inboard support that has the chain welded to it.
Yeah, but the biggest advantage is thetire tread moves away from the truck. I elected to widen my front wheels only. The rears are fine, but I worried about the distance between the inside of the tire and the vent louvers on the fron fender wells. Now, no worries, and that is with only 3 inches...
I am currently installing the troop-seat version in my deuce. I can say the fit is kind of tight, side to side. The only way to use the driver's style is to only use two seats. I didn't have a gunner's seat to try. I made an adapter plate to bolt one of the seats to the spring base and made a...
If you are asking about SSers in El Paso, I think it might just be 3 or 4. If you mean the EP/LC/Alamogordo/Cloudcroft/ Ruidoso/etc. area, then I estimate 10-15.
You are right about that. I was stationed in Millington TN, north of Memphis - hated the humidity. I was stationed in Yuma, now that is hot.But as for us here, how'd you like yesterday,s weather. Mighty nice.
I have given it some thought as I already have a slide-in pop-up camper available. Just have to work out lifting it that high. What has stopped me from trying is that I can still just load it up on my 4x4 pickup and really solve the high clearance issue.
I have classic cars, off-road trucks, race cars, motorcyles, quads, and boats. I had to have on when I saw this from my boat while out at the lake. It's all fsearls92's fault. That is a pic of them at the lake BTW.
