I think I recall someone was working on a DIY manifold that circulates the coolant with an inexpensive diesel RV heater, like an expensive Webasto or Espar.
Dropping temperatures make me think about extreme cold starts at some point with my truck. TN is no North Pole, but if I start to travel, I'm I curious what people use to keep there CATs warm in severe cold. I know that block heaters have been known to cause a fire or two.

Just replaced the Rapco filter. I noticed the heater in fuel filter base. Is this triggered by a temp sensor in the unit itself, or an external trigger?
For those using the OEM line replacement and want to replace the straight and 90 degree fitting, the cost is about $20.50. I believe the part numbers are 6v8628 and 6v8647. I will double check those numbers tomorrow.
Why would you want to connect it to the head? You want that portion as sound dead as possible. Connecting to the head will increase the intensity of the vibration. I'd anchor off something else and dampen the clamp inside with butyl rubber.
I just put that part on yesterday. It's genuine CAT. After examining it and how it fits, I am going to replace both fitting at each end. I am talking to CAT this AM. The O rings appear flattened / worn down. Metric O rings did not fit theses parts well. Possibly SAE. Nevertheless, I am realizing...
