With the top rack, legs and angle iron I’m at about 195 lbs now. And there is not much more steel to add. The pipe and angle both, weigh about 1.68lbs/ft
Ill add another 40 lbs I’m sure. Would have been nice to keep it lighter, but strength was more important than weight. I pull it with a 3/4...
Added two bars to the front of the trailer that attached to the front leg. I had two legs that were bent at 15* at 4” from the base. Which worked out perfectly for the distance from the front. I wanted a good place to mount my hi-lift jack and the two bars provided more stability for the front...
Thanks SD. It’s nice to see your work take shape instead of a pile a parts and promises and internet posts that it will look good when done.
Today I am experimenting with leg bracing. I have ideas, but will have to start cutting to see if it looks good and works.
In an effort to make sure my uprights were ... well, upright, I devised a jig by drilling half holes the size of the pipe in the side of a 2x4 that would hold the pipes at the same distance apart on each side and on the top while welding. I could have made three, but, it was unnecessary.
I...
I didn't read through all the pages, but I can tell you that I have taken my truck from sea level up to 10,000' and there is a HUGE difference. HUGE!!!
The biggest benefit is to turn up your fuel. The screw that gives you more fuel at low RPM's. It also gives you more smoke, but, it will get...
One of the most useful books I have. Bought it before Mr. Google was very popular and phones had internet. It’s posing with one of my favorite pig slaying machines, for size reference. And because both were on my desk.
Has everythig from weight of steel, weight of gravel, welding rod info...
Well, I'll be. You are right. All the brakes I have put in my basket at eTrailer have been never adjust Dexter Brakes and I bought these and assumed they were. "Never go full re..." I mean never assume anything!
Left side may not need any adjustment. The drag is so slight, I can only hear...
Is that about two yards? Or a little less than 2 yards? Depends on the stone and size too I guess. Wet sand and gravel mix I think is about 3200-3400 lbs/yd depending on size. I have a quarry on my ranch and needed that info for my dump bed I made. That’s the only info I stored in my head. :)...
30 Years ago, if I deserved an ass whoopin, I usually just took one knowing I had it coming.
Now, everyone just lawyers up and sues. Especially the bad guys.
Welded the sides on the rack. Have not welded the 1/2” spacers in yet as I’m working on the leg spacing now. Decided to make the rack the full length of the trailer. I did mention earlier in this thread that most of the plans for this are in my head right? Ok, good.
The top and the legs are...
That’s nice. It was hard to visualize at first with just mounting plates, but now that it’s all together, it looks great.
I love hydraulics. Well done man.
The brakes have two wires, both are white. One needs to be connnected to the (usually) blue brake wire. The other needs to be connected to a clean ground. I am going to run completely new wiring on mine later so I have not hooked the wiring up yet.
You can see the lever for the parking brake...
Clean spindle.
Brake Part numbers. Labeled left and right.
Now is a good time to step back from the trailer and see which side the tongue is on. You know, so you don’t put the brake on the wrong side like I did. Just FYI
Here we go, glad I caught it before I put the hub on.
Once the...
Started with the change over to electric.
Pop the cap off, removed the pin and castle nut, which was surprisingly easy, and pulled the hub off.
Hub came off without any trouble. Spindle was in good shape.
Bearings looked pretty good. Outer bearing looked new. Inner bearing showed some...
Good saying. It was true today.
Rob, my dumb ass have made lots of people do stuff they wish they didn’t. Fortunately, the statute of limitations has mostly run out on those days ... Mostly ...
Sorry you didnt get my brake handles. I got lazy and didn’t get around to removing them, then...
I set a leg up on the trailer just to see what it would look like and since I leveled the trailer, and chopped the bottom of the legs level, it stayed, so I put all 5 up. They are not spaced perfectly, but you get the idea.
I am happy with how they turned out. I’ll finish the roof rack, mark...
Today I made the new legs for the rack. I decided I liked the curved legs like the ones in the photo. The pipe I’m using was bought at auction. It is 6’ 4” long and meant to be used as a cross member or crossbar on a military vehicle or trailer.
So I bent 10 pieces of pipe. With a 10* inward...
Welded some of the new supports this morning, but the weather was to nice to pass up working outside, so I am currently outside doing brakes and bearings. Pics to follow!
If you can dream it, you can build it!
Unless you suck at welding, then, you can’t.
Expo has some pretty incredible builds. They serve as inspiration for many and spawn other ideas. The internet has given all of us a place (like this) to come learn anything we want. Welding, guitar, how to...
Yawn. :|
Question. When it landed in your lap, did it hurt?
If he can't put a motor that fits in his truck, what will he do with one that doesn't?
I feel like we are Charlie Brown, and he is holding the football ... again. :clinto:
I know! hook it to a generator, Put it on the roof and...
