This is a good time to replace those old oil filters with spin on filters. I have the jatonak spin on oil filters on both of my deuces. They have performed flawlessly.
Anyone know of a source for gauges with Douglas connectors?
I am thinking about making an adapter wire with Packard male on one end and Douglas on the other to hook up M style gauges?
I got the lockouts a couple of years ago from jatonka, the AVM kind.
When I pulled the stock hubs on one of the deuces I was surprised to find no gaskets. I put the gaskets JT sent on both deuces and never looked back.

But, of course. That is what gave me the idea. I figure even if you drain the air tanks every time it is used they all make water. Some must go through the air horn after 40 years. Hence rust or crud accumulation in the moving parts.
On the second deuce the air horn developed a high squeal. The more it was honked the less the squeal. But, since I do not want to ride around honking the horn all the time to make it work I oiled it.
I removed the air line and shot Remington gun oil into the air line and reconnected it...
I just take a paper towel and lift the filter up wiping as I go. Then I toss the filter into a bucket and use the towel to wipe up any oil remaining. There is not enough spill to worry about.
I have had the Jatonka filters, all of them, for several years. Never a problem with any.

This Monday morning at 8am join the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 820 in the annual Denton Fourth of July Parade.
We form up on the parking lot of the Wells Fargo Bank on the Square at 8am. Parade at 9am.

We changed head gaskets three times. The first repair worked until it blew the head gasket completely out of the rear most cylinder. We figured perhaps we had not torqued the head properly. We put on a new head gasket...
I find that most light problems on my deuces have been caused by bad grounds. Once it was a wire pulled loose from a splice and once it was a flasher.
Just get an ohm meter, make a long extension and start checking for completed circuits. Grainger has the inside/outside star washers quite low...
There is not a lot to rebuilding the steering gear. Some bearings, some bushings are usually enough to fix any problem.
Getting the box out requires lifting the front of the engine and inch or so, however. Disassemble the entire box, steering column in the truck and remove.
It actually is not too much work to remove the head and put on a new gasket.
First check the oil filler cap. If it looks all cheesy, you have AF in the oil pan.
Be sure to look for cracks in the head and have it decked before reassembly.
The hardest part is the intake/exhaust header nuts...
