    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Hey Soni, any way we can get a bunch more pictures of the 10 ton wrecker? That thing looks like it deserves a thread of its own!

PA - Spring 2013 Rausch Creek Sign Up Thread

Be advised, though we are having this rally in mid-April, for those who haven't been there before, the location is on top of a high ridge-line, and the nights there get COLD. A couple times there was light snow present at some time during the weekend. If you plan on sleeping overnight there...

PA - Spring 2013 Rausch Creek Sign Up Thread

This rally was founded by a couple guys out in Long Island, they are here on the site occassionally, but for an unknown reason, they haven't shown up in several years, and they won't even reply to PMs about the rally at all. I plan to ask them about it when I see them at MTA or Aberdeen rally...

    First M792 Gama Goat

My condolences on owning one of the weirdest, noisyest, and oddest looking MVs ever to be foisted upon the US military. But welcome to the disease!

    M116 1967 pioneer tool trailer

Those make awesome utility trailers for offroading. I got the idea a while back of mounting a platform tent on the roof of it, I think it would be an awesome camping rig with that upgrade. Don't hack on it too much, though, you might decide later on that you really want to restore it to...

How do you paint your Deuce?

All my trucks I had were painted with spray bomb rattle cans. That being said, I didn't have the correct tools to do a proper job, like a compressor, a garage and an HVLP paint gun, if I did I would've painted them that way. The results are better.

PA - Spring 2013 Rausch Creek Sign Up Thread

Shenk is right about the location where we camp. When you get there, it will be obvious. It's no longer, however, the same level as the parking lot, it's been dug out so that you're camping about 8 feet lower than where you are parked. Bring an air mattress if you plan on camping in a tent...

    Oddball express ii

This is a great thread. Few semi-trailers that come out the military surplus get any attention at all, most are slaved to do work until they fall apart and are scrapped. Glad to see even the big, less-celebrated pieces of military rolling stock have some dedicated owners as well.

AM General to offer civilian HMMWV "kit car"

Interesting, you can't buy them surplus from Uncle Sam, but you can buy a kit car, without engine, for $59K new from AMG. Well, I guess you CAN buy them now, but the old ones gotta get crushed to prevent you from getting a deal.

would you recommend a military vehicle for a small hauling business?

Okay, thanks for all the good info, guys. I'll re-recommend to him that he shouldn't buy a military vehicle for his work, but should instead spend the extra $$$ on a pickup and gooseneck trailer. He will only need it for street use (no offroad) so straight axles are all that are needed.

If you plan to offroad that Corvette in your avatar, I'm sorry to say you are going to get stuck. Sure, civvy 4x4s can come, we've had guys bring POV's before and they did fine!

would you recommend a military vehicle for a small hauling business?

May have the opportunity to help out a small business with getting a vehicle(s) for hauling small loads locally. Most, if not all of their stuff gets moved on pallets, so loading/unloading would primarily be by forklift. The owner wants to move as much as possible, without getting a semi-truck...

Have a CUCV M1009 that I want to buy, that lancerobson has me interested in. Just need to shake the dollar tree and see how much falls out before I make the rally with a new toy.

I'll be there, might have green iron with me this time, but that's dependent on a couple paychecks I haven't received yet. Either way, I'll be there Friday around noon to Saturday night or Sunday morning.

    m38 Recovery!

I love the M38 jeep! I always liked the M38s over the M38A1s. The flat hood and fenders just are more endearing to me, harken back to WWII era...

    biggest pintel trailer (aka pintle,pintail,pinal,pinto,etc)

There are a few trailers I'd look into: M345 10-ton trailer M989A1 HEMAT 11-ton trailer They are NOT going to have a 15-ton rating you are looking for, but they are heavy enough to handle heavy stuff. For recovering 5-ton trucks, I'd recommend flat towing behind another 5-ton truck, or have a...
