    M1009 Shock Recommendations

Dirt bikes have taught m the opposite. No boots equals clean rams provides the rod is on the bottom. Stainless steel and chrome are subject to crevice corrosion so it's best to leave them exposed and clean. Covers or anything that will retain dirt or contact surfaces will cause corrosion.

    Lift Pump Leak

Not personally but there is a hole in the case right above that crimp so that it will leak externally when the diaphragm fails. Otherwise it will fill your crankcase with diesel and damage the engine. The diaphragms on lift pumps do have a finite life.

    Jump Start Question

Yes, I have had to get a jump from a tow truck in my CUCV. The jump packs are not grounded/are the same as isolated ground alternators. Connect each jump pack to a battery or jumper cable one battery and use a jump pack on the second.

    remote start cranking time?

You can use the cell phone to initiate the sequence. You just need a more robust controller between with safe fail modes. In my example, using the counter with alarm output to stop the start signal has a risk. If the mag pickup fails the counter will never see engine speed and the crank cycle...

    M1008 rear brakes

The trouble with DOT 5 fluids is that they don't absorb water. Any water that ends up in your system will end up in the calipers and cause seized pistons. There is a reason the low maintenance civi vehicles prefer not to use DOT 5 fluids. And no, don't mix the two. My truck had mixed fluids in...

    remote start cranking time?

You might be able to use a digital panel meter with alarm output to sense engine speed. A magnetic pick-up off the ring gear is the most common source. Once speed setpoint is exceeded the alarm output opens a relay which can be used to break the start signal. There are less expensive options...

    remote start cranking time?

All of our industrial engines have a crank terminate speed. 300 RPM or so with idle set at 600. The starter can roll the engine at 200-250 rpm. Once the engine reaches 300 that indicates that it has overrun the starter. This sequence gives very good starter life with pre-engage type starters...

    Engine change

We get those stickers a lot in the marine industry. We're installing exempt tier 3 engines in our fleet right now. This sticker is the real deal. You have a 1998 engine. I can't tell you what engine you have.

Main shaft removal - output bearing

Can you hang the shaft vertically with the bearing on the bottom? When. Doing bearings I usually cut the cage off so that only the inner race remains on the shaft. Heat rapidly with a torch and the race will fall off.

Anyone have issues bonding to Behr paint with adhesives?

There shouldn't be any issues bonding to the Behr paint. The problem is that the Behr paint doesn't bond well to many automotive coatings such as epoxy primer. Any adhesive is only as good as the material it's stuck to. It's always best to adhere to bare metal when possible.

Will group 31 batteries fit in a CUCV?

Yes, I have 31's in mine.

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

If anybody is having trouble getting a paint store to look up the FSS #, have them search for the brand "US Government". Benjamin Moore can mix the FSS codes directly from there.

My M1009 has died new curve ball thrown Updated

Any bubbles in the coolant? Of the 2 GM diesels I have opened, the fire ring on the head gasket cuts into the top deck and they start leaking.

    fuel filter and lines

What leaks on the housing? Can it not be repaired? I have not experienced this. The filters are from Stanadyne and cover a large range of vehicles. John Deere uses these on their engines. They aren't cheap but they're good filters. If you ever cut one open you'll see that they have a primary and...

Mounting an AC compressor on stock 6.2?

I'm putting a 2001/04 6.5 in my CUCV with complete with serpentine right now. I'm converting the CS144 alternator to 24 volts with a stator from a 21SI alternator and maybe a 24SI regulator (that's still in the mail). The 2001 has an AC compressor. The dual thermostat housing doesn't clear...

Just picked up my first m1008

I put a set of Kumho tires on it, 285/75R16. I paid 700 for the set installed at Castroville Tire.

    Warwag - m1028

Your shifting is most likely an issue with the vacuum regualtor system attached to the side of the injection pump. Mine also has a similar issue. The rubber boot on mine is rotted and likely leaking which makes the transmission think the engine is at full throttle which is why you get the...

    Coolant light question

Well, little bit of symantics here, but your CUCV should not have a coolant temperature sensor. It has a coolant temperature switch. Sensors give an analog output meaning they very based on whatever they are measuring. Switches are either off and on, digital, and well it will only switch on at a...

Just picked up my first m1008

The truck was on craigslist. It had already been registered and everything. The moment I saw it I said to myself I must have this truck. I didn't care that it had bald tires and a can of ether on the seat. It was located in Stockton. I simply drove it home, after a shot of ether. The previous...

Just picked up my first m1008

Putting in glow plugs that work has brought up some other issues with the alternator belts being toast so those are getting replaced tomorrow. I got your number, CUCVFEAK. I wanted to call you Friday and swing to check out your rig but I was way behind schedule and traffic was awful. I'll...
