I think that finding one for the dumpt truck here will be near to impossible. I asked some manifacturers here and as expected, their remark was that it's not so much the material as the work. So a soft top for the cabin would come to $ 400 to make (I bought a NOS for $200). A normal cargo would...
I want to replace two lines:
- the FIXED line on the front axle running between the line splitter ond the differential and the flexible line going to the left wheel brake cilinder. That line is OK but has a sharp bend with a dent in it.
- the FIXED line going on the rear rear axle from the...
I am going to replace some brake lines and putting new brake fluid (DOT 5) in my M51A2. How much liquid does the system needs when completely draining it and refilling?
I got the flexi brake lines today but here in the Netherlands they don't have the original brake fixed lines for my 1973 M51A2. Off course, the problem with getting something similar is that the US brake line nuts differ from the Dutch (metric). Besides, it looks like all these little shops with...
Got myself a nice present today. Bought some material at REOMIE's and asked for prices of used and new soft and hard tops. They finally sold me a completely new original canvas cabin top for $210 (150 EUR). They gave me a 20 EUR rebate on it as donation to the museum.
Rear brake hose set be...
Maybe weird looking, but better safe than sorry
The tandem is supported supported in the middle, those blocks are resting on long beams, so the wieght si pread over the ground (no concrete floor available, only uneven grassland. IN addition, something as extra under the axles themselves...
Clinto, great, could have used that a few days ago, as is clear from my post:
Differential and sprag or other system
\ I miss the very embarrassed smiley with the brown paper bag over its head like charlie Browny
Thanks. Not that I planned to do it, but putting front-wheel locking hubs on your 5-ton for highway work is nonsense in that case.
So basically I have a 4x6 on highway and 6x6 in the mud. Great. Learned several new things today, both from praxis and from this forum.
OK. Somebody explain me this.
1973 5-ton M51 A2 Multifuel
Front wheels jacked up and free, rear wheels on the ground.
Both front wheels free, when turning one it will turn the other in opposit direction.
In neutral AND in forward gear, keeping one front wheel fixed (not turning) and the...
Pics will come tomorrow, but here is what happened.
Already last year, we had tried to tighten the adjustment nut without any success on the free play. Today, we took off the front wheels, and kept turning the steer first without engine and later with engine running. More and more free play...
I saw that one already. Should have repeated that I have am working on a M51-A2. Unfortunately, the location of the steering house and the way its fixed (and probably everything else including types) in that M809 thread differs from the situation in the M39 series, or at least in my truck...
Have a look at this thread. What I read here looks too familiar with what I have. I will jack up the wheels tomorrow and check again, but I am afraid it needs a new gear.
One thing I was thinking of. If the adjustment screw has been too loose too long, can it be that the lever has slipped over...
The Bear is back from hibernation and back to work (as of tomorrow).
Did anybody ever pulled the steering house itself out of the truck (5-ton with Ross Hydrapower), opened it up and replace the innards. Not talking about the hydraulic part, but about the mechanic part of it. Pics please??
By then, I hope my truck will be in the Czech Republic already and in a much better state. I'm leaving for the Netherlands in a few hours to continue the work.
:drool: Don't force yourself. I'll add to the temptation and make you a deal. We split the costs of transport: your new truck to the Netherlands and mine from the Netherlands to here. Must be cheaper than trying to find two single transports.:beer: any takers
