:jumpin::-P:mrgreen: Ok, failed the Dutch DOT inspection, as expected.
But the people gave me the list of what should be done to get it fixed AND without problem get fully Dutch registration and even historic license plates. And I drove 15 miles with it, speed increasing from 30 until I...
I have this funny operating manuel booklet. It mentions there as one option that you can also wash your filter with some detergent. Does that still hold true and if yes, how long should you dry it?
My filter says it was made in 1986, inside is still white but from the outside the dust and sand...
When test driving on a straight road, I can move - turn the steering wheel about 5 to 10 inches in free play, without anything happening. Is that normal?
If not, how to correct for that.
OK, dumped the swamp !! :)
The oil presure gage was a lose contact.
Did about five miles driving four times up and down a straight road today, shaking and noise like ****. Maxabout 30 mph, did not dare to push harder yet. The biggest surprise was that, after we figured out all the knobs and...
Most important, I sometimes know when to shout for help. Yesterday I had a friend of me there. She is skipper/owner of a 65 feet tjalk (my brother had a 50 feet one). This is a 101 year old sailing barge used for transporting goods through the Dutch waters and accross the waddensea and baltic...
Thanks, that's a relief.
We spent a day on getting some stuff and make a first check.
Commerce does old army stuff. Turns out he does the European stuff, his brother in the south of the Netherlands the US stuff.
So I bought a pair of Nato standard batteries. The real ones, boy are they heavy...
If you want - need real Tatra parts, I can look here in teh Czech Republic, but is would cost you shipping though.
If the upgrades are special gadgets, not manifactured by or occasionally appearing on Czech or at least European Tatra's, I cannot help.
OK Some detail pics
1 The biggest rust problem: passenger door and hole in exhaust stack
2 Aux tank lid, but no corrosion inside
3 main tank lid, corrosion around the filling hole
4 Tire: US Army REOR
5 Brand new, but how old
6 oily grease: hydraulics from steering system?
Want to change the fuel filters and clean the tanks before starting it. Very hard to restrain myself, just waiting to hear it roar for the first time and see it dump the swamp.
:jumpin::jumpin::beer::driver:rofl:driver::jumpin::cookoo:8-):lol:
I now legally own a 37 year old rusty 5 ton dump truck with a swamp in the dump body
I have a 1973 5 ton dump truck with an LDS-465-1A Multi fuel engine, my first MV and first truck.
Truck has been irregularly used over the last 10 years, but always on road diesel. Did not drive for over a year, tanks almost empty, maybe with water.
I am definetly going to replace the primary...
OK, made it to the Netherlands friday night, 900 km in 11 hours, with a few hours of legally driving 160 km/hour (100 miles/hour :driver: ). Hopefully the road back will be very very slow and noisy.
The owner was out already, so we will do the paperwork monday. Had another look a the truck...
I'll make that my first priority then, if possible even before driving or towing it to our Dutch working space. Not sure if the current owner agrees with any work done on his terrain though.
So order would be
1) replace alll fuel and fuel filters
2) run engine to see if it works and warm up...
The truck was never deployed although the son of the Dutch owner painted RAMBO on the front-top of the nose (very original aua )
It s a 1973, so the original olive-drab without camo, as it was (see pictures in first thread) and without rust.
Where possible, we will restore the original white...
Normally, when buying another car, I automatically change the oil, oil filters, fuel filters, belts, and depending on the age also all the other oils like gearbox and brakes.
With this 5-ton multi-fuel, I am a bit unclear what the best stategy is.
This specific vehicle has never or not often...
Tomorrow or Saturday I hope to take possession (keep your fingers crossed, hope the guy did not change his mind). Then I really can start working.
Ron, this sounds very interesting and promising, if the bolting to the main frame is not too complicated. That might mean that with four hydraulic...
What is the correct paint for the later M39 - M5x series trucks (and presumably everything else as well).
I have a 1973 Kaiser dump truck, in one color, and like to at least repaint some rusted areas.
From the Olive Drab website, I figured out some numbers for the 1968 - 1984 period.
OD...
Just found something nasty. the dump truck has a DOUBLE FRAME or a subframe on top of the main frame. Did not notice that before.
Any idea how the second one is bolted on top of the first one?
Anybody knows if the hydraulic cylinder is connected to the subframe or to the main frame below it?
