    Locking Diff

Works just fine with opens, done it many times. It is also well documented in many off road books dating back 40 plus years. Rick

    Locking Diff

This is a tried and proven method of gaining traction. Been done for more years than most of us have been alive. It forces the differential to transfer some of the power to the unloaded wheel. This is done by way of equalizing the force between the wheels by using the brakes. Rick

    Rapco paint at Aberdeen?

If Cabell does not have it then Army Jeep Parts carries it but you might want to call them before the show since I have never seen gray there. They only bring the most common colors unless you call ahead of time. Rick

Please don't be this guy(pics inside)

OH MAN! You had to bring up that speedo picture! That pick up is right around the corner from my house, (ask EMD and Ferro) and that kind of rig does not surprise me around there. The local cops would not bother it, they don't want to get out of their cars. Staties on the other hand would have a...

jump starting cucv with a civy

You can only jump one battery at a time. You would hook the cables to you civvie normally and to the cucv to pos and neg on ONE battery only! Hook directly to the terminals on ONE battery, do not hook grond to body. Charge that battery for a little while then switch to other battery. There is no...

    my wifes new ride, M38A1

Another little trick is after you get it good and clean dust it down with baby powder and it will show any leaks pretty quickly. Rick

    ASK up-armored doors

Originality does not seem to be an issue since he already has a Duramax in it. I do agree that the steel armor is a waste if it is not original because any value added by it is subtracted by the engine swap. If you have to do it then go with aluminum so you still have a fairly safe vehicle...

    Blew a head gasket

It has been a long time since I did one but if I remember correctly the balls are two different sizes in there and they have to alternate small-large. The difference is very small so you have to measure each one. Originally they were different color but not after years of use. Rick

NEED Pictures of a M1008 Engine

That seems to be a VERY common complaint on this site anymore, a lot of criticism and not much help. I was told in an e-mail by Chris that things were going to change. Guess not. This is supposed to be a help forum not a private club, as was mentioned if you can't help don't comment. Those...

    Speedometer-challenge

If I remember correctly there should be a transducer screwed in where the cable would go, you should be able to take out the transducer and put in the cable. Now whether it is the right ratio remains to be seen. Rick

    2011 MTA Swapmeet Dates

That would be Dave Kelone. Just do a google search for his name. Found it. http://www.militarymules.com/ Rick

    2011 MTA Swapmeet Dates

It is looking like I am not going to make it, just have too much to get done on my fleet to go to Aberdeen. Sorry guy's. I will have more time next year and I will plan ahead. Rick

    Motor let loose this AM!

I have seen a lot of 6.2's break in the same exact spot. A lot of the time it is from using ether. Could have been a balancer if you were really twisting it. Forget replacing the crank, the timing cover is going to be trashed and the front main journal will be either cracked or severely gouged...

    Stuck with no 4WD!

Note his last sentence, "with everything locked driveshaft rotates freely." He had already verified that the hubs were working correctly. That tells me there is no connection between the shaft and the axles. Granted, the way he did the test is not conclusive at all since the wheels are being...

    U Joint again?

I used to own a 4X4 shop in the 70's, I am real familiar with drive shafts. If once you get the joint in the yoke is stiff you can smack the yoke with a hammer just below each cap you had put in. This will usually free up the joint by backing the caps out to the clip. Rick

    Tire belts going bad

75 lbs. of air seems to be a lot for an empty truck. I run 45 in the rears and 55 in the fronts on mine and still tend to wear the centers out on the back.

    U Joint again?

Zout, That is called phasing. As that shaft turns the u-joint speeds up and slows down through a 360 degree rotation. The joint on the other end have to be in phase so that the joints on opposite ends are speeding up and slowing down opposite of each other therefor cancelling out any vibration...

    Gearvendor

I agree 100%. I have seen 700R4's behind some really serious horsepower and they do fine if they are rebuilt with quality parts. You have 165 horsepower, you are not going to kill a R4 with that. PLUS, you get a lower first gear and an overdrive 4th. Lower first and 4:56 gears and you will pull...

    Tire belts going bad

Under warranty at 17 years old!!!!! My guess would be that the tires were run with a heavy load and then cross rotated. That could make the belts shift in some of the older radials. I would lose the 17 year old tires fast, The rubber compound is probably hard as a rock and if you have to stop...
